UFC 135: Travis Browne vs Rob Broughton booked for Sept. 24 in Denver
A heavyweight match-up has been booked for UFC 135 on Sept. 24 in Denver, Colorado, as fast-rising prospect Travis Browne will take on Rob Broughton.
The promotion brought word of the pending contest earlier today.
It took Browne just one year and nine fights to make his way to the big show. The Alliance MMA member ran through the lower level competition with eight impressive finishes before earning a shot with the UFC.
His first test came against James McSweeney at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale and "Hapa" did not disappoint, dominating the Brit en route to a first round technical knockout victory.
The Hawaiian's hype train was brought to a screeching halt at the hands, or more specifically knees, of Cheick Kongo at UFC 120 but he channeled the power of superman to get it back on track, razing the "Skyscraper" Stefan Struve this past Memorial Day weekend.
Next up, a big ol' "Bear."
Broughton, Liverpool native, made his Octagon debut against Vinicius Kappke de Queiroz at UFC 120 across the pond last October, finishing the "Spartan" with a third round rear naked choke.
It was his fifth straight win and fifteenth overall. But will he be ready to throw hands with one of the most lethal strikers in the division?
Or is he simply a sacrificial lamb? Time will tell.
UFC 135 will feature Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones making his first title defense against former 205-pound king Quinton Jackson.
In addition, Diego Sanchez will hit the mats against Octagon legend Matt Hughes, while Ben Rothwell and Mark Hunt will meet in the center of the cage and slug it out in a heavyweight tilt.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more on this still-developing fight card.

Not really a step up from Struve is it....
more like a huge step down. Broughton looked pretty shit against that guy who got caught juicing, he can take a punch tbf to him but i see browne destroying him.

Browne looked good in his last fight
One more solid win and he gets in the mix i think. Not that i think he’ll be champ or anything, but maybe a solid gatekeeper
i agree 100% sir
this is kinda a gimme for Browne. Broughtons a bit of a chubby man so I’ll enjoy the ripples as brownes punches land on his body with ease

Good point
Hopefully they’ll add some depth to that card, i can’t see that doing anymore than 200k PPV buys, if that.
Definitely a gimme
expect Broughton to try hard as hell to get this to the ground and when it does go to the ground he’ll be unconscious…..or turtling up. One of the two.

For sure...
UFC wants to help add another knockout to Browne’s reel. He will most likely get it.
This fight just doesn't seem fair for browne
Browne should get some sort of step up, common now ufc browne would be a star in any other mma organization, and he’s put in work..man i don’t understand why people disrespect thins man because of the kongo fight. Kongo is a dirty dirty fighter, and not just with short grabbing. some people act like browne should be frowned upon because how he looked against blatant cheating in the fight by kongo to gain control. if anything it should tell us how STRONG browne is to have kongo to grab dem shorts like it was life or death. Man, i really wish the ref dq’d kongo for what he did.
Step down fight for Browne
He should have fought opponents on the level of Pat Barry or Mitrione
