Guess who's back at welterweight?
That would be Scott Smith, who has been booked to throw leather against Tarec Saffiedine a the upcoming Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Henderson" event on July 30 in Chicago, Illinois.
MMAWeekly.com recently brought word of the pending match-up.
Smith's first outing in the 170-pound weight class resulted in one of the most amazing knockouts of the year in 2010. Thing is, he was on the receiving end of it, eating a left hook from Paul Daley that had him doing a face-plant on the mat in St. Louis.
It marked his second loss in a row and third and his last four fights.
Time to get back on the hog -- and fast -- against a prospect with everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Saffiedine was last in the cage in January, a losing effort in a battle of budding prospects against Tyron Woodley, his first defeat under the Strikeforce banner.
A well-rounded martial artist, schooled in the disciplines of Shihiashinkai Karate, Muay Thia and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the "Sponge" had previously won his last three bouts against the likes of Nate Moore and UFC veteran Brock Larson.
Strikeforce on July 30 will feature a a mega match-up pitting legendary Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko taking on Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson.
In addition, a welterweight war is scheduled for the main card, as Paul Daley will square off against Evangelista Santos, possibly for the promotion's vacant 170-pound strap.
