Anderson Silva picks the world's top two fighters ... and his choices may surprise you (Video)
Georges St. Pierre and B.J. Penn.
That has to make UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar feel good. "The Answer" defeated "The Prodigy" on two separate occasions back in 2010.
Anyone out there agree with "The Spider's" picks?

Of course Andy won't pick himself...
Anderson Silva is without a doubt the G.O.A.T. and best P4P to which there's no debate. People may try but they'll lose! GSP hasn't done what Silva has in 2 weight classes plus can't finish people in his own division who haven't moved up from LW. Fedor has less names on his padded resume and was once the top HW but then ducked the best and lost to guys who are barely top 10. Anderson is the G.O.A.T. no matter what the haters who boo him say. They used to boo Ali too. Anderson Silva is Michael Jordan but Jon Jones is LeBron James!
Honorable mention to Kalib Starnes?

I don't always rage, but when I do, I prefer doing it over Bellator judging. Stay angry, my friends.
Clearly you lack knowledge of Jason Guida...
…he is one of the few men to go the distance with the great Bobby Lashley….if that isn’t impressive, I don’t know what is
You're forgetting...
It was Jason Guida who showed Steven Seagal the kicks that he is teaching Anderson and Machida. Jason Guida knows all the secrets. He’s also got new punches and elbows he’s showing Seagal right now, which he will then pass down to Anderson and Machida.
He wont' even get the credit either...
…that’s probably why people bash Seagal so much…he doesn’t get credit where its due
I read Seagal is teaching the front kick to
the fat and old cops he worked with on that show…Criminals beware!

He should have said Gray Maynard and BJ Penn

Worlds top two best fighters. Hard to argue that on their absolute best days that BJ and GSP arent the two best outside of Anderson

Of all time, maybe
But not really currently. I agree about Silva but BJ we will have to see.

BJ is badass, with a list of who's who opponents...
…if he used the same strategy he used against Fitch when he fought Edgar, I think he’d still be champ
I love this trend in MMA reporting...
Of making a headline out of something that is relatively old, irrelevant, or just plain misleading. This case isn’t so bad. But I’m sure a lot of us saw the Super 7 live and heard this at the time that he said it. When put into context of the entire conversation, you can see that Anderson was taking impact on the sport and legend status into account when he said these two names…
I get it, though. Space out the information…Gotta have something to talk about on slow days.

right.
and further, these “top 2” or “best of all time” or “worst of all time” or whatever really are kinda lame, imo.
Especially when the entire article is basically names thrown at a wall.
If there are going to be articles written like this, they should be clear. Instead of “top 10 fights” write “top 10 most memorable fights” and then right a paragraph on what exactly is and isn’t a memorable fight.
This is kind of a pet peeve of mine. I’d be embarrassed in my line of work if I wrote something like “best” without a clear explanation of what that meant.
BJ has always been Ando's favorite fighter so there was no doubt he would choose him.
BIG NOG for Life
One Step closer to Gleison Tibau @ 145
If the round is too close, it's 10-10, NOT flip a coin 10-9 or late takedown FTW.

I thought he said Rich was his favorite fighter?
Has a sig bet with Californication for Wiman/Siver at UFC 132
Further more, I have a sig bet with Chronogata on Lesnar over JDS

There's a difference between Favorite vs Best.
GSP is probably the BEST fighter in the world. A lot of people wouldn’t consider him a favorite of theirs.
Does Anderson not watch Penn post first round?
His gas tank has been historically bad.

Or the sherk fight.. What about Joe daddy..
In 170 yes he fights guys 30 lbs bigger… That takes a lot of energy… It’s worse if there wrestlers a good wrestler at 185- 190 lbs. Can feel like 210lbs. Now @ 155 not so much huh…
Joe Rogan is a idiotic tool..
i think when he talks about bj
he means his pure talent, bj is just naturally such a good fighter and so talented. I remember watching an interview with anderson silva and he was saying that bj’s approach to fighting and his spirit etc was one of the things he admired about him

Kay all you haters pushed Anderson to speak English in interviews...
….and now you see why he doesn’t!
His English was fine here
I don’t really see what you’re saying
I have been lost in disaster response world for the last two weeks
Did I miss anything earth shattering in the mma world? I did find a Fox and the Hound near Birmingham AL, so I did get to see the mind blowing non stop action that was GSP vs Shields

Nope.

And you call yourself mms fans.
All fighters have another fighter who can beat them. Styles make fights. Just cause you lose to one person twice does not make him better then you. This ain’t boxing it’s mma. If Silva lost to Cheal does that make Cheal a better fighter. Hell no. Just means he has a style to beat him. You have to look at a fighters all around game. I don’t think GSP is that good all around n if he was he would submit Sheilds, knock out hardy, out wrestle Kos.GSP beats fighters at their weakness to me he’s the smartest tactical fighter.
Anderson is the best hands down. He beats you at your strength like Rich in the clinch, sonnet under his GnP, Vitor out struck him, knocked out Leben and Griffin in brawls.. He sat in Maias guard the first two rounds… Come on guys n u call urself mma fans..
Joe Rogan is a idiotic tool..
Yeah...that NASA stuff is crazy hard
"Remember men, we are all winners in the eyes of Christ...except for the guy still bleeding on the canvass"
Not for jah...
He knows everything about mms.
U kno who jah is
Jah is god u stupid fuck so obviously he does right
Joe Rogan is a idiotic tool..
Anderson is right about
BJ Penn, but not GSP. Sorry ees my opinion, too.
BJ has an aura about him when he shows up. On some days though, like against Edgar, he doesn’t show up and that’s his problem.
Anderson is a modest guy, he is without doubt the best P4P fighter in the world right now. GSP has a lot to prove in my opinion.

I'm glad someone in here knows what their talking about
Anderson beats you at ur strength. While u have to have a significant weakness for GSP to win..
Joe Rogan is a idiotic tool..
The only time GSP has beat somebody without a weekness
was when he fought Penn but als, BJ was much smaller and all that vaseline on GSP didn’t help.
The Fitch fight also comes to mind but Fitch’s weekness was the same as GSP’s – lay and prey lack of killer instinct asherance to playing it safe.
I don’t recall the great GSP having a good fight since he won the title. I liked the old GSP, new GSP sucks big time.

you know he wanted to pick himself and jon "bones" jones.
Jon " Bones " Jones new UFC light heavyweight champion. Even if Jones got struck flush in the face he would recover and defeat whoever is in front of him. I told everyone the fight would be easy. Anderson Silva would never fight "Bones". He is too scared to fight the real P4P champion. Nick Diaz, the man who will prove to the MMA world that he is the best WW in the world.

Anderson is a little slow
BJ Penn?
I’ve probably only seen about 10 Shields fights. And I would have no problem sparring with him. At all.
For all of you dummies who can’t add- If GSP and I were to spar, I would make him look worse then he does in my pic.
Can BJ Penn please lose a fight with out there being stupid ass excuses?
He didnt show up…? Thats the biggest crock of shit. So he didnt show up twice against Edgar? No. Edgar just kiked his ass like no other. And to say Fitch just layed on him is retarded. Fitch played the drums with BJ;s head for the entire third round. BJ fan is cool, but his fans are a bunch of arrogant fucks.

BJ is a hall of famer
that’s all Anderson is saying, GSP will never fight Anderson cause he know what will happen and Anderson doesn’t care about gsp, its a easy fight for him , a Robot vs a Cyborg Cyborg wins cause he has imagination

I never said anything about BJ's status or credintials.
Just his fans and excuses.

Robots have titanium exoskeletons and redundant systems
You shoot a robot in the head, he’s fine. Probably got a backup processor in his abdomen.
Shoot a cyborg in the head? Goodbye.
You don’t need imagination when you’re bulletproof and are packing more heat than the US Army circa 1945.

check the fight stats on the first BJ v Edgar fight
then actually watch the fight again… then comment. In that order, please.
Why do so many fools think one division is weaker than any other??
All unjustified, fan based exaggerations to (which seems to come a lot from GSP fans)
WTF is the UFC WW div always ‘the most deep’ or ‘the toughest’ ???
add to this whenever theres disucssion involving BJ and AS, its LW and MW divs are
weakest in UFC/shallowest…
GSP cleans out his div (some opponents twice) could be taken as its so shallow theyve had to recycle some fighters… but AS always gets the MW div is poor? but in both cases for GSP and AS, next challenger is almost always ‘its his toughest test yet’ or ’he’s got the tools to defeat GSP/AS this time"
There are NO weakest div, you have set weight classes and you fight whoever is put there for you in that weight class…then if you dont/think you can do well you may choose to possible move up or down the next class seeing as most fighters nowadays like cutting weight so much… if you think you can make weight and take on AS or GSP in their div then you do it… notice how all the fanatical fans always call for their heroes to move up/down to challenge others, BUT theres not a lot of fighters who actually choose to move up or down to challenge the Champions? cos when youre actually you prob know deep down if you can take on certain people or not…just reality…look at Marquardt going down to WW i find that quite pathetic and really juicing the weight cut system of the UFC…what happened to “I know I can get back to winning reg. and going for another title shot against AS??”
Both GSP and AS are great fighters, but I hate always hearing MW is the weakest div!
Now as to BJ, no doubt about his fighting talent, the thing i like about him is/was that he just seems to like fighting…moving all over weight classes. Unfotunately he can be weak mentally sometimes (big weakness yes) but theres no doubt about his ability!! The bad thing for him in a few of his major fights is the UFC scores takedowns with a lot of weight, just how it is…
BJ GSP 1 and BJ Edgar 1 are the two best examples, although amounting to nothing/mediocre damage wise, the take downs later in those matches got the decisions for GSP and Edgar… effective striking in those two matches seems to have been relegated to 2nd grade points… again thats how it is currently in UFC…but I do like the fighters who refuse to/minimally use the take down to just tally up points!
JBJ I think is up there in top fighter overall rankings…I cannot stand the guy’s attitude and religious references, but atm he looks to be very dominant overall…just good skills with excellent size/height/reach! I see it like the Usain Bolt of MMA, if you’re 6’5 and your stride’s freq is the same as the 5’11 guys, WTF is everyone else gonna do??? can’t win!
Of course MMA is not as clear cut, but JBJ got some great natural advantages… Well a few fights left for JBJ in LHW so see if hes AS of LHW before he may? move to HW…

Anderson is kind of an ass. He's a badass, but an ass nonetheless
He likes to fight “smaller guys” so he can have an advantage. Sounds like he’s making it easy on himself, especially since he doesn’t really have a problem cutting so much weight.
GSP for the win.
BJ for the lose
People who don't have the patience for the technical aspect of MMA should think about getting into another sport. THIS ONE requires BRAINS.
If GSP wins in that fight
people will probably just argue that Andy is out of his prime now, and GSP wouldn’t stand a chance two years ago. Blah blah blah.
