Except that this paycheck is more than any of the gates from his SF fights. SF does not get paid based on ratings, they get a flat fee for television and need to make money off of ticket sales. Fedor/Werdum and Silva/Fedor each did just over one million dollars.

And your statement is not true. Fedor/Silva, part of the GP, did a record number, but Fedor/Werdum did not and were middle of the road.

Regarding Dan Henderon: Sponsorship money does not come from the promoter, Dan will get plenty from his regular sponsors.

Bottom line is that companies need to stay within a budget to survive. Paying out more than you bring in will kill you. It is not a matter of whether or not these guys are “worth it” but a matter of whether or not the pay makes sense.

We can complain about the UFC’s system of ppv percentages and backstage bonuses, but that ensures they don’t pay more than they take in. Six years ago, they lost money on almost every show.
