Roger-huerta-1

Roger Huerta is now a free agent and is looking to fight as soon as this summer, according to the MMA Hour. "El Matador" ends his Bellator career having went an unimpressive 1-2 including a crushing loss to Eddie Alvarez. After taking some time off, though, his management is talking to a few promotions about getting him back in the cage soon and Huerta is adamant he is not retiring any time soon. Any idea where he'll end up?

StrikeForce

Gives KJ Noons an extra fight under showtime

by Bigger Zino on May 24, 2011 3:21 PM EDT reply actions

I agree, SF

Noons or Thomson would be good scraps.

Dream has a good LW roster too: JZ, Ishida, Shaolin, Aoki, Kawajiri

by Patrick Daryl on May 24, 2011 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions

He'd probably lose all of those fights but I'd still want to see them

Huerta’s rarely in a boring fight and will always be a marketable guy. I’m surprised Bellator didn’t try to keep him around as a big name for their next LW tournament, it’s unlikely that he’d have won it anyway.

Dare I say it....who cares?

I don’t even see him doing all that well in SF at this point.

What a loser. Didnt this guy wanna be an actor or something? No personality, cool life story. maybe they’ll make a movie about his life and he can play himself. All the way up to the part where Eddie Beats his ass.

by JCVD jr on May 24, 2011 3:24 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Yeah

He wanted to act. Who knew there wasn’t a lot of interest in a 5’4" action movie star???

Roger isn't a loser

He puts on good, exciting fights and never quits. Eddie Alvarez is a monster and would have a good shot and defeating any LW in the UFC. There’s no shame in losing to him although I was surprised and just how lopsided the fight was. Roger had that amazing comeback over Guida and put on a heck of a fight with Maynard. I’d love to see him back in the ufc. How about a fight at 155 with Diego or Nate Diaz?

And he beat the shit out of that fat fuck who decked that girl

That made me an even bigger fan of his. Wonder what that pussy was thinking when he say Roger charge him and figured out the dude could seriously fight. Probably crapped his pants.

by Adam T. on May 24, 2011 5:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd give anything to have those skills

but I’m an old dog and that ship has sailed. I’m going to enroll my little boy (3 1/2) in martial arts, mainly because he’s super active and I want him to experience as much as possible. If I had my youth all over again I’d jump at the chance to learn martial arts. I wasn’t ever introduced to contact sports, especially combat and I know my son will love it especially having the opportunity to start at such an early age.

by Adam T. on May 24, 2011 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I know OJR

Maybe I’ll make it work, it’s just that the logistics suck and I hate taking time away from the family. There is an awesome fight facility in Modesto (CA) with guys that I used to do some training with about 7-8 years ago. However, that’s 1 1/2 hours round trip, meaning very costly. I’ll eat mac & cheese every day to make sure my boy can do what he wants and enjoy life. But I’ve got a hard time shelling out a lot for one of my interests.
When the little shit is getting ready to kick my ass in a few years I’ll remind him who financed his learning.

Don't get me wrong. I have been a fan of his for a long time but at this point I find watching him really frustrating

Yes, his fights are exciting but he never seems to have a game plan and if he does as soon as he gets hits it seems to go out of the window. He just hasn’t been fighting smart imo. He is with Arena MMA now and has been in Thailand for over 6 months (not just messing around with Swick and Baroni). Hoping between that and continuing work with Freddie Roach he improves his footwork etc. Moving forward and not making much of an attempt to avoid punches isn’t going to cut it.

What did Roger do to Dana?

I wasn’t following UFC politics when he left.

by unambig on May 24, 2011 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

nothing

he decided to leave when his contract was up. he didnt have beef. nothing wrong with that, the man filled his part of the contract.

Fighting solves everything.

by Two_Words on May 24, 2011 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

he wanted a better contract, it's called negoating.

Dana responded by selling him out and giving him an unfair fight against Maynard to shit on his image and Huerta actually did well against Gray and won 1 round.

I am who i is.

Unfair Fight?

FAIL. If you are in the UFC you should be fighting anyone to prove you are the best in the world. They were both 155, it was fair.

Well to be fair asking for BJ level money after the UFC have made you a "contender" by giving you a bunch of handpicked opponents including journeymen and FWs to build a streak on isn't a great way to agree on a new deal

He got helped to the top then got greedy when he made it and as a result was forced to fight legitimate opponents, hence him going 1-4 in his last 5. He’ll always be a marketable guy and a fun fighter to watch but he’s not the star that the UFC or Huerta himself wanted and expected him to be.

Possibly SF but he's not good enough for the UFC

Roger’s only chance of making it back to the UFC is to take a fight on short notice.

Huerta is still a worthy lightweight

Sure, he got beat up by Eddie Alvarez, but I personally think Alvarez is easily a top five lightweight. I also thought he won both of his fights against Gray Maynard and Pat Curran. He would be a good addition to the Strikeforce roster.

Good fighter

But needs to focus more on fighting and less on acting if he wants to be taken seriously. We’ve all have seen what happens to these guys once they go Hollywood, it’s just the beginning of the end…

Lets all remember...

He was doing Arianny for a while. Oh that has nothing to do with fighting but it still counts as a win in my book!

Lol now that I can understand

What I’ll never get is how Burkman and now Tiki ended up with Arianny.
