Murilo "Ninja" Rua has retired from MMA as an active competitor. Following a third round knockout loss earlier today (May 21, 2011) to Tom "Kong" Watson at BAMMA 6, Rua took to Twitter to announce his leaving the sport as an active competitor:
"I would like to announce officially my retirement from PRO MMA fights tonight. It was an amazing run, and its a very tough moment ... But there comes a time for all in life, and it's time to move on. I am proud of all I did in MMA and all experiences I had ... I will continue to work with MMA, doing seminars, teaching classes, training fighters, and doing my share to help our sport that I love so much."

Tough time for the Ruas
Another old school fighter bites the dust. Let’s hope his brother can pick up the slack and give us the fights we know he is capable of.

Time to go when you lose to another gifted ninja

Good decision. Watching ninja nowadays is just depressing. Getting soundly beaten and then KO'd by a bum like Tom Watson. Ugh.......I wish Ninja never fought Sergei, he might still be good. That's why moving up in weight on a whim is a bad idea
Fans might appreciate it, but it didn’t help his career
Ninja always fought with heart if not his always head
Called quits at the right time. I wish him health and happiness for the future.
Thanks for the great fights man.
