Jon Fitch says Nick Diaz is a 'paper champ,' making a rumored fight with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 140 later this year in Montreal perhaps not all that meaningful. Diaz defeated Marius Zaromskis to win the vacant 170-pound Strikeforce title in Dec. 2009. He's won four consecutive fights since that time. Fitch -- a former number one welterweight contender -- is currently on the mend from extensive shoulder surgery. Does he make a good point or is medication affecting his brain?

Definitely Diaz.
BUt SHields would probably catch him with some sub sooner or later.
Fitch just doesn’t want to keep getting snubed over. Too bad no one really cares about him.
The character of a man is always proven after faillure - not after success.
im not sold as Jake being this submission machine
He has great ground control but i dont think his sub game is that good. Fitch his hard to sub let alone finish and he has the condition to push shields. Fitch would beat both Diaz and Shields.
But book Shields vs Fitch and Penn vs Diaz.

hes tapped Fitch before in grappling comps, he can do it again

i am very straight
I enjoy watching Fitch completely dominate his opponents. Frustrating the shit out of them. Dude’s an animal. His technique is extraordinary. I get why people think he’s boring and all that, but he really is one of the best fighters in the world. different strokes for different folks. If you think grappling is gay, maybe try it…see how gay it is when you get choked the fuck out.
i use to love defending fitch style but after watching every fight play out the same no passing guard, no amazing stand up , no sub attempts, no real damaging ground and pound i just got bored and I love grapplers aoki, both hendersons, rousimar palhares, maia, frankie edgar, evan dunham, BJ penn all these guys are some of my very favorite to watch i just don’t enjoy watching fitch stay in someone guard for 3 full rounds doing minor damage
+109394848549449
I try to explain this all the time, it’s boring as ol’ fuck.
if he would just fucking move and try to get a better position it would make all the difference.
-You don't have to like me, but you will respect me.
--Canada is the king of MMA.
going against the grain
is no longer the in fashion thing. you say his technique is extraordinary but I would say he simply does the basics very well, cerainly nohting flashy. There’s no long set ups, no string of sub attempts, just jiu jitsu basics done very well

And grappling isnt gay but wat fitch does is when was the last time u recall him choking any body the fuck out

It’s pretty gay when Fitch chooses to just lay on someone for three rounds. I wouldn’t call that grappling at that point.

He may have a point about paper champ,
but not when he asks why the fight would be good. Diaz is never in a boring fight, he brings a style and attitude that GSP has never had to deal with before, and he could never perform as badly as Hardy, Koscheckd and Shields did thats why it would be good. He’s just bitter because everybody enjoys watching Diaz go to war but even his mum probably falls asleep when he’s fighting. He is the one and only fighter I call boring, but his style is effective, and I blame his opponents not him, for their lack of ability to deal with him.
actually
i sat behind his mom at the diego sanchez fight and she had a shirt that says jon fitchs mom.. she was pretty excited..
but anyways jon fitch is clearly salty and jealous here.. nick diaz tries to finish every fight, improves his position, takes risks.. and jon looks the same as he did the last gsp fight.. what has he improved??? hes doing the exact same thing.
best prediction is gsp via decision, but whos got a better chance than nick either standing or off their back?

Shields was never Strikeforce Welterweight champ
Maybe Fitch should know what he’s talking about before he runs his mouth. Strikeforce and Elite XC are not the same organization.

Ha Ha
Pure sour grapes. Fitch’s talk is way more interesting than his fighting but way less effective. How the hell is Diaz a paper champ?
He’s so skinny from his diet he wouldn’t have the strength to be effective with Diaz and i’d see him getting tapped.

Fitch is the only welterweight fighter that is more boring than GSP.
At this point Nick Diaz vs GSP actually makes sense. Diaz is not a one-dimensional fighter like GSP’s past few opponents.
Ironically the last multi-dimensional fighter GSP fought
is the last fight he’s finished.

Fitch beat the shit out of BJ in the last round of their fight
He might not have tried to pass, but that was some impressive GnP
who cares?
GSp will make every fight boring he ant hungry he fights to not lose when he should be going out there to put these guys away and he doesnt all the 170s he fought arent that good there just as weak as silvas 185 opps and he finishs everyone gsp you will NEVER be the p4p best no one cares about you winning 25 rounds straight mma fans want finishs
it seems downright perfect...
That Nick Diaz comes in and pushes GSP to his limits after 129. But its all so mysterious. If Diaz crosses over to fight GSP then that sets a precedent for other champion fights. If the UFC’s ultimate goal is merger, then why bring other champions in to descredit the UFC champs when they will eventually be on the roster anyways? This fight happening all depends on what the UFC"s long terms plans are.
by bloody_cage_junkie on May 21, 2011 1:02 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
You also gotta think of the UFC's capabilities.
If the UFC was to start bringing over all of Strikeforce’s big guns now, how the hell would they maintain a stable roster for the next 2 or so years left on its contract with Showtime? There will be little to no crossing over until that contract is drawing to an end.
by jestermarcus on May 21, 2011 2:03 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Matter of time
I disagree with people saying they should leave strike force alone it be a crime not to have some of those guys in the ufc to many good matchups for them to pass on, i dont see it hurting mma having one big mma promotion, but i will say they need to give more free fights die hards mma fans can spend close to $1500 on ppv a year
Its not about it hurting mma or Zuffa, its about contracts.
If they were to start the crossover now Showtime could fuck them up for breach of contract. Having crossover fights now would decimate Strikeforce’s roster and their numbers would plunge. Showtime’s ratings would fall and there could be a major legal issue there.

All this time I thought Fitch was smart
But I guess just not smart enough to realize exciting fighters/fights are the way to title shots nearly as often as beating top flight competition.
And I’m one of the few Fitch fans, but if he doesn’t understand why Diaz is getting maybe thrown in the mix then he’s a moron

I took from it that his point was
Diaz needs to fight Shields first to prove that he would really be the champ had Jake not left Strikeforce. I mean losing a decision to GSP after going five rounds in a championship match shouldn’t damage Shield’s ratings too bad. Jake shields was the champ and didn’t get an automatic title shot. Why should Diaz?
Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses off my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

I see what you're saying
But if he thinks Shields should fight Diaz then he’s even dumber—they’re Gracie boys that’ll never fight one another. Diaz is a champ right now, and due to no fresh meat for gsp, giving Diaz a shot makes sense. They filled up a hot air balloon with the irrational notion that hardy was a credible contender. They could do that with Diaz, and they’d have a belt to throw in with the hot air

Maybe because Diaz is exciting and fights to finish. And you’re a zero personality wrestler that got your ass handed to you by Mike Pierce. You may be able to beat Diaz but you’d look boring doing it.

Fitch has the perfect style to lay a beating on Diaz.
Dude impressed me with the way he went after it against BJ.
He can take Diaz’ tippy tap shots and neutralize his ground game. I dont see Fitch and Diaz being a boring fight at all!! Fitch would be able to let loose an active ground and pound.
But I dont even think Diaz deserves to fight fitch let alone St Pierre. Give him a number 5-7 ranked guy for now and see how he does.

Was it the number of times he got taken down by a Lightweight whose never taken anyone down in his life that impressed you the most?
Or was it his excuse about not training any defensive wrestling for the fight even tho he’s been wrestling since he was a kid!

Paper beating Rock is the equivalent to
a wrestler lay & praying on a pure striker. They just kind of smother them without doing any kind of physical damage. So in this respect, Diaz is no “Paper”
