Overblown career?

Look at his resume dipshit.

What the fuck was Randy thinking?

He’s one of my favorite fighters, but why would he ask for Machida?

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is a terrible matchup for him… Randy has lost a lot of his strength and wrestling ability. Tito would probably take his ass down, these days.

I just don’t know what Randy saw in Machida, to suggest he was a good matchup. He kept bringing it up in interviews about how he’s been craving to fight Machida for a while now, and it confused the shit out of me.

BTW, I haven’t even watched the fight yet, but a knockout was predictable… Lyoto has solid takedown defense, certainly good enough to stay on his feet against practically anyone in the 205 division, and Randy offers very little – if anything at all – on the feet.

Not to mention, Randy’s chin is just as suspect as Chuck’s… so the way he was harking back to Chuck’s retirement and talking about how he was gonna leave on his own terms, was dumbfounding, ’cause everything about this matchup suggested he was gonna get embarrassed just like Chuck…

Honestly, Randy’s only chance was clinching and dirty boxing for three rounds… but Lyoto is an elusive motherfucker, and he isn’t stupid either. He’s not like sadistic Gonzaga, letting Randy punk him against the fence.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out how the hell he thought Machida was a good matchup…

Hell, there isn’t a top 10 LHW that’s not gonna give Randy fits, these days.

Look at how much he struggled with the underachieving, overrated Vera. When Randy couldn’t take him down, I realized he was no longer a contender in MMA. They say strength is the last thing to leave you… Randy’s bread and butter was wrestling.

Hughes is going through the same thing right now. He’s lost so much strength, his wrestling’s a joke now. I wouldn’t be surprised if Frank Trigg took his ass down, these days… then again, Trigg is a washed up motherfucker, himself.

Anyway, I was hoping Randy retired after he got raped by Brock. Randy and Forrest are my favorite fighters. I love them because they’re underdogs who’re capable of upsetting some top names through game planning, strict dieting, and work ethic.

I still feel this way about Forrest… but as for Randy, I just don’t think he has the physical tools to compete anymore… and I was the first guy hoping Randy would not retire too soon, but I’ve long conceded that he needs to hang it up. With the exception of fighting Chuck or maybe Lil Nog, forget about another fight.

his name was used one last time, to sell tickets and to draw interest from fans. the result was as expected and it was a good result for the UFC.

As much as I respect Couture as one of my favorite fighters

I did predict Machida would KO him in the 2nd. I should’ve bet that.

He’s in the wrong division

I told you kids Rua was gonna run through Jones, but no one listened. The hype train has made its last stop, and the "mighty" Jon Jones has fallen. Shogun tore him up with his muay thai, and dominated in every aspect of the fight. He came in fully prepared and got the job done, like I knew he would. Still the greatest p4p of all time. And STILL UFC LHW Champ, Mauricio Shogun Rua.

No he's in thevwrong organization

He belongs in strikrforce

I’m telling you right now shogun will beat Jones, he might even take jones down and pound him out. There’s no way Jones can handle shoguns striking, rua will rush jones. Shogun is a warrior with razor sharp elbows and Gracie like jj. I’m telling you shogun dominates jones. -Danago

Maynard would smash him now eh?

Because while he did beat him in a rematch, he only won a spit decision. In fact Diaz did so well against him that it cost Maynard an immediate title shot.

If you dont think Maynard absolutely smashed Frankie for round 1

Then I would like to know what your definition of smashed is.

Full disclosure: I am a huge Maynard fan (I know, we are rare), but even I thought Frankie won rounds 2-5. Kid is an animal.

I thought Nate won the rematch

Yet another close decision that went against him (like against Guida). He hasn’t improved as much as I hoped he would but I doubt that Gray would smash him when they fought recently and it was a close fight. He’s also the last man to beat Melvin and made Pellegrino tap while flipping him off.

he had huge pimples all over the place…I know the guy is still young and could potentially have really bad acne, but those could very well be the marks of someone who has taken some serious hormone injections

i'm curious as to whom

machida will be match up with next he’s fought and beat most of if not all the top guys they have to offer , and everyone that’s a legit opponent is booked at the moment. Vera is all that comes to my mind , and that’d be a big step down imo

by TheDragon on May 3, 2011 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

No, it was not "amazing"

Randy is a wrinkly old senior citizen who had no business being in the octagon, much less against a former champ and top 5 lhw.

Silvas kick against vitor was a million times more impressive because vitor still walks fine without a cane.

by Lester The Pimp on May 1, 2011 11:22 AM EDT reply actions

Have to say I partially agree.

It WAS amazing, but I agree about Couture. I’m really tired of him wasting spots on PPV pretending he is still some badass.

Enough. I hope he really retires and stays retired. And I hope all the idiots who keep talkin about him like he’s in the run for a title shot (at LHW or HW) can now STFU.

Don’t underestimate Steven Seagal. He’s my friend, and while I cannot say too much, understand he has been one of the world’s great fighters who parlayed his genius into a huge franchise bigger than all UFC fighters combined. The man is a legend. He is also, and I hope Steve doesn’t mind me sharing this, behind the “crane kicks” of UFC 129. Now you know.
