One welterweight door closes, another opens.
Top 170-pound fighters Carlos Condit and Dong Hyun Kim will collide in a pivotal divisional match up at UFC 132, which is slated to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 2, 2011.
The promotion announced the showdown via its official Twitter account earlier today, fresh on the heels of scratching the rematch between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch, who both sustained injuries while training.
Condit (26-5) recently pasted British "Outlaw" Dan Hardy at UFC 120 last October to push his current win streak to three. In fact, the "Natural Born Killer" is 12-1 since 2006 with a staggering ten stoppages.
Prior to stiffening Hardy across the pond, the former WEC welterweight champion disposed of Rory MacDonald at UFC 115 after squeaking past Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 19 just a few months prior.
Also tearing up the Octagon in recent appearances has been Kim (14-0-1), who's been racking up points on the judge's scorecards en route to unanimous decision victories in his last three fights.
After outworking TJ Grant at UFC 100, "Stun Gun" stymied the efforts of Amir Sadollah (UFC 114) and Nate Diaz (UFC 125) with his suffocating top control and relentless takedowns.
Expect more of the same on July 2 -- just as you can expect Condit to be ready for it.
UFC 132 features a main event between bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and his 135-pound arch enemy, Urijah Faber. Ryan Bader and Tito Ortiz are also expected to hit the mat in a light heavyweight bout.
