Shields' dad got it right :

“Jake goes out and does what’s unexpected . . . and I expect him to win this fight”

I'm always thinking one step ahead. Like a carpenter . . . who makes stairs.

GSP's like what 29, almost 30

that’s not coming any time soon.

Jon Jones vs Rampage Jackson!! Make it happen. Yes, I dislike Rampage that much.

Jakes finished more fights recently then Georges has?

"......I'm the best ever. I'm the most brutal and vicious, the most ruthless champion there has ever been. No one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No! He's no Alexander! I'm Alexander! I'm the best ever. I'm Sonny Liston. I'm Jack Dempsey....My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious......." - Mike Tyson

So ANS, are you rooting for Shields?

Has GSP been to Jacksons at all in preparation for this fight?

by judomania on Apr 21, 2011 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but its tricky he is doing less Albuquerque more BJJ. So Greg has been gone alot.

When I heard his dad say that I knew

it would end up here. :)

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed . . .

But in the intro where they introduce GSP and Shields, they show GSP shatter his name as he kicks a heavy bag; but then they just show Shields shadow boxing next to his name. I’m pretty sure Shields was supposed to do the same thing but they quickly realized he couldn’t strike hard enough to break through his computer-generated name.

Watching the quickness and athleticism in the training of GSP

further adds to my belief that GSP is the superior athlete. I think we are going to see the superior athlete grind out a win here. GSP was looking very strong and very nimble. I really doubt we’ll see a submission from Jake that gets the better of GSP.

Of course I’ll be hoping Jake wins though. :)

Another trophy to add to the album of tenderized mug shots GSP has aquired

GSP’s power sits right where jake wants to be. I think it could even be a knock out finish this time

My prediction...

Shields gets screwed over bec MMA judges are clueless and will be overly influenced by the crowd. I see Shields winning 3 of the 5 rounds w/ his “AJJ”, but in at least 1 of those rounds by at least 2 of the judges… they will score it for GSP bec the crowd will go wild after a quick GSP takedown or jab or whatever.

I’m not a big fan of either these guys, but I do think they are the 2 best and toughest to beat 170ers. My favorites in the 170lb division are Condit and Nick Diaz, but yeah I know GSP and Shields would be on top of them grinding out a decision where they win every round.

PS I’m on twitter @NBKGault … I’m on a twitter crusade to try and legalize UPkicks to a downded opponent, and 12-6 elbows. Neither are huge things and would only help the guy on bottom a little, but both rules are retarded so I figure it’s a start, and anything that helps a guy from just getting held down and taking no damage for 3-5 rds is sure to help the sport grow in popularity.

by Gene Gault on Apr 21, 2011 5:55 PM EDT reply actions

I've never seen anyone penalized for 12-6 elbows from the bottom, unless they were to the back of the head.

Regardless, I think it’s ridiculous that they’re illegal and fully agree that the rule should be changed. I also agree with respect to upkicks to downed opponents. They are no more dangerous (actually much less so) than head kicks by standing fighters and would be a useful offensive weapon for fighters on their back.
