Bad news for Art Jimmerson, Dan Severn and old-school MMA fans everywhere.
Royce Gracie, despite claiming he was in negotiations to return to the Octagon at UFC Rio on August 27, will NOT be on the card when the promotion returns to Brazil, according to President Dana White (via MMAFighting.com). Gracie recently hinted at wanting a rematch against Matt Hughes but White has "no intentions on offering him a fight."

it woulda been a terrible fight either way
they either woulda fed him a can and it just woulda been an ugly fight, or they woulda given him somebody that can still actually fight, and he woulda gotten fucked up
Like mothafuck all y'all, Mr. Mike Tyson flow, uppercut all y'all, step into my ring bitches, ding ding bitches, click clack pow pow bing bing bitches
Yup. good indeed.
I don’t care to watch him fight. He was interesting in early UFC, he’d be slaughtered today.
I'd change my name to Mr. Carrano.
Yup
It would’ve been a huge waste of a slot on the card IMO.

Think about what your saying
If James Toney deserves it why not Royce? Even if he’s over the hill (which he most certainly is), one dimensional (again yes) and the sport has passed him by (yet another yes) he single handedly revolutionized martial arts and was the key factor in building this sport. We as fans owe it to him if he wants to be on this card we should bug Dana on twitter until he makes it happen. Royce deserves it even if he’s not UFC caliber anymore.
"I like being punched... I like... punchin'" ~Gray Maynard
"A black belt only covers two inches of your ass, you have to cover the rest" ~Royce Gracie
"I don't work submissions, not because I'm trying to prove anything, but frankly I'm just not very good at them" ~Chael Sonnen
UFC is about the best in the world.
In fact Royce proved that better than anyone overcoming all of those powerful fighters.
But if they just let him fight Rio, it would discredit what he built.
I'd change my name to Mr. Carrano.
Absolutely not
Danas learnt his lesson after the Toney debacle and from the last time he gave Royce a UFC fight because he dominated the early days when his brother ran the promotion. The sport has evolved a lot from the awful original no holds barred openweight UFC, nobody from that era should be fighting on a UFC show in 2011 because they’re no longer competitive.

Right move. No freakshows taking up space on UFC cards anymore, especially cause he'd be on the PPV portion too
Royce is a legend. Let’s keep it that way.
Fedor.
YEP... it was the only fight that woulda made sense but still there was too much in the way of it happening...
im disappointed in this though – Dana’s a prick sometimes Royce was keen for this… Give him a go
I am so sorry MMA fans for my lapse in judgement for picking Daley over Nick. I should have believed Phasebook when he said that Diaz will beat Daley convincingly. I hope Bones Jones will salvage my reputation.
Pro sig bet record: 1-1-0
GOOD
If Royce honestly wants to participate, why not in a grappling tournament at a Fan Expo? That way we won’t be subjected to seeing him get his ass beat by Hughes or someone else at WW. Royce is a legend, but don’t taint that legacy by losing to some hungry newcomer or departing legend (again).
I agree but...
i do agree that he shouldn’t be on the card but I do think that maybe the UFC should have a Fan Expo in Rio and throw Royce in that with a grapplers match. I think that would be cool
Good news
Royce truly lives in his own world, I remember a year or two ago when he claimed he was in discussions with Zuffa to face GSP.
Sean Salmon's Flying Crane Kick.
He would...
Probably test positive for roids again anyways. Good decision by Zuffa.
good news
however could he not do some grappling at the fan expo if they hold one there? could still have some pretty sick matches set up that way

Ok
You guys are all faggots for talkin shit about a legend. It woulda been nice to see him fight in rio. Even if he wasn’t on the main card. I was looking fwd to seeing one last go.

One last letdown.
It would be boring, he would get destroyed, and it would discredit the UFC.
I'd change my name to Mr. Carrano.
We do not know the situation
Maybe Gracie was in negotiations. Maybe he was not. We dont know why Dana did not choose him. Maybe Gracie wanted to much money. Hell they paid him 400k when he fought Hughes, I bet that has a lot to do with it
Right decision
Now we can go back to discussing how stacked this card and stop talking about deluded legends.

Good!
I hope this is true and Dana sticks to his guns. I can’t believe that anyone would actually want to see this shit in 2011. The guy is a legend yes, but he’s 44 years old and was almost murdered last time he was in the octagon. I really don’t want this to happen.
