Happy Saturday. It is that time again. Time to discuss some MMA.
As we approach the next 205lbs title fight, we are seeing a new time in this stacked division. Let's first rewind a bit.
Approaching UFC 128, everyone was psyched for the Evans-Shogun showdown. Then we found out Rashad had suffered a serious knee injury that would force him out of the main event.
Dana steppind in and decided he needed a replacement asap, and who better than Bones Jones?
Evans showed the class of a true teammate and supported the Jones movement, even going so far as to say that if Jones won, he would consider moving down to 185 for some exciting fights.
So Jones of course would echo this message right?
Jon Jones out of no other reason than satisfying his own ego gladly stated that he had no issue fighting Evans. This came as a shock to everyone due to the close-knit relationship amongst the Jackson camp. This was not even after he beat Shogun, this was before the fight. It was seeming as if Mr Jones was beginning to develop an air of invincibility, and the idea that he could take on anyone, even a close teammate and supposed "friend".
Fast forward to today, when we find out that Jones apparently was toying with Evans during training and could have submitted him as often as he liked, but out of respect for Evans, refrained from doing so.
I don't know about you, but if a guy says he was toying with me in practice and elected not to submit me, that is not respect, it's a slap in the face.
Now, a few thoughts of my own here:
I call BS on this "I coulda tapped him but didn't" business. Rashad has one loss on his record, and it was a KO. He has fought strikers, wrestlers and bjj black belts, and never really been in trouble. I don't believe for a second that Mr Jones, having come from a small camp would immediately display such grappling dominance on a former UFC champ.
I am willing to bet that Rashad also had his chances in training. But I digress...
I have been saying for a while now that Jones was a cocky bastard, even when others believed that he was a nice fella. he seems to be trying pretty hard to prove me right.
So my question to you is:
Where do you stand on Jon Jones, Maniacs?
