Did anyone notice when Mr. Scientific-Jiu-Jitsu-Funny Hair-Now Bald guy said . . .
GSP beats his opponents in their domains.
I was thinking to myself . . . BULLSH*T.

It's NOT bullsh*t
Let’s see here:
GSP knocked Alves down.
GSP out-wrestled Koscheck.
GSP landed the only clean shot of the fight on Hardy.
GSP out-striked Penn and passed his guard several times.
GSP out-wrestled Hughes.
GSP out-wrestled Fitch and out-striked him, as well.
Disagreed. Vee is right on the money. That's not hating, either.

I dispute that claim of yours, being a GSP fan.
I think you’re just a well dressed Vietnamese walking and whistling, hands in pockets, on a Saigon sidewalk while you’re true nature is that of an infiltrating Vietcong gathering infos for the bigTet offensive. You’ve been at this for some time now but you’re not fooling me, I’ve spotted you mister.

Haha! I am a (rare) fan who tries to be objective. Most GSP fans are frothing at the mouth right now if anyone posts anything other than ... GSP is God!

Wrong my friend.
GSP is a god. Not the same. Write it down.

All I see here is
blah blah blah…GSP is God.
I agree, OJR. Good post.

I do and Jake survived until the end of the round and went on to win rounds 4 and 5
He got sloppy towards the end of the round and almost paid for it but recovered and went on to win. Mayhem’s very good on the ground as well so even someone as good as Jake can’t afford to make silly mistakes against him. Personally I think Mayhem’s BJJ is a lot better than GSP’s or at least his submissions are, GSP’s great at passing his opponents guard but hasn’t finished a fight by submission since the Hughes rubber match. He couldn’t even finish Hardy on the ground.

why do you disagree?
All his stuff looks correct to me. Is it because the whole fight doesn’t take place in his opponents comfort zone?
BTW- I disagree w/ GSP being able to beat Jake in his domain. He’d be wise to keep it standing and use Jake’s face as a punching bag.
Jon Jones vs Rampage Jackson!! Make it happen. Yes, I dislike Rampage that much.
Notes, I think GSP is a far better striker than Hardy and Thiago Alves but if you want to state that he kept those fights standing (in Hardy and Alves’s domains) then I guess we saw a different fight.
Yes, GSP outwrestled Koscheck in their 1st match. But did he bother trying to outwrestle him in the rematch? No. He avoided Koscheck’s strength.

I think the point here is
that he has shown the ability to defeat some opponents in their domain. Nowhere in the video or the comments above has anyone stated that’s what he always does. He wouldn’t be an intelligent fighter if he gave his opponents any advantages. GSP will probably try to keep it standing since Shields’ ground game is so good, but if they get into a scramble and GSP gets top position, I wouldn’t expect him to be desperate to get back to his feet.
My problem was that GSP started talking about wanting to beat his opponents at what they're best at
That wasn’t what he was saying after outwrestling Hardy for 5 rounds. GSP’s a smart fighter and usually dominates a fight by exploiting weaknesses, that’s something to be applauded not covered up by himself, his trainers and his fans with inaccurate and misleading statements about how he wins fights by fighting in his opponents domain.

"did he bother trying to outwrestle him in the rematch?"
…Yes, he took Kos down several times throughout.
On another note, Kampmann, DALEY & Miller were all able to get up from under Jakes stiffling top-game, all more than once I might add. I dont think its arguable that any of them are anywhere near GSP so why do you all think GSP wont be able to do the same & do a much better job of it?

kid_sea got it right.
He’s so well-rounded that he can out-perform anyone at whatever their strong point may be. He’s better than every WW at everything. If you disagree than you simply can’t understand 1 > 0………check the record book.
GSP landed the only clean shot of the fight on Hardy.

YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.
- GSP did not stand with Thiago Alves. Yes, I think his striking is crisper, faster and all around better . . . but he decided to keep it tight and safe.
- True, GSP out-wrestled Koscheck, IN THEIR FIRST MATCH-UP! In the rematch for the title, he used his superior striking to make Koscheck think twice. Note, GSP is far better than Koscheck in any discipline.
- GSP grappled Hardy to death. Don’t come with that weak shit about he landed one clean shot against Hardy. So what.
- I’ll agree with you Hughes and Penn. GSP is definitely better than Penn and Hughes in their domains. BUT . . . I can be a dick and say, he didn’t submit Penn and he greased.
- How did GSP hurt Jon Fitch? WIth his wrestling or his jab? Don’t tell me both, GSP kept that match standing for the most part. He got Fitch to the ground but he didn’t out-Fitch Fitch on th ground. He ’eff him up standing.

I can't give you an exact figure....
but I recall GSP passed Fitch’s guard several time in that fight, which NEVER happens…..Fitch’s face was a fuckin mess after that fight….I think it’s safe to say GSP smashed him both standing and GnP
4-0-1 - who's got next???
What's up Sittingbull, do you think I forgot???
He smashes everybody wherever the fight goes
Complete and total domination.
Jon Jones vs Rampage Jackson!! Make it happen. Yes, I dislike Rampage that much.
Extra Credit
If you’re going to go as far as the Matt Hughes fights then you might as well note that
- GSP did not out strike BJ Penn in their first fight.
- GSP definitely did not out strike Matt Serra in their first fight.
- But GSP definitely did out-strike both fighters in their rematches. No argument there.
I tend to be biased towards strikers . . . exciting strikers.

seriously....
I love how the video also was like “FOR THIS FIGHT GSP DECIDED TO BRING IN THIS AWESOME JIU JITSU MASTER” when he uses that guy in all his training camps. He just has a shaved head now…. they probably thought nobody would recognize him from the TUF season he was on now with his shaved head. lol

209 taking over
I told you kids Rua was gonna run through Jones, but no one listened. The hype train has made its last stop, and the "mighty" Jon Jones has fallen. Shogun tore him up with his muay thai, and dominated in every aspect of the fight. He came in fully prepared and got the job done, like I knew he would. Still the greatest p4p of all time. And STILL UFC LHW Champ, Mauricio Shogun Rua.
i just noticed now you mentioned it, i would assume gsp would wanna train with a bigger wrestler for shields
No, it's a cardigan but thanks for noticing.

Not happening
BJ doesn’t want to fight at 155 anymore and has already been beaten decisively by a guy with similar strengths to Gil (good striking, wrestling and BJJ as well as outstanding cardio and the ability to fight at a fast pace for 5 rounds) in Edgar twice. The Gil that liked to brawl and gave up easy takedowns from Pride and the early SF days would have been destroyed by BJ but the Gil that times his punches well, lands clean and often and has vicious ground and pound with fight ending elbows as well as great top control and BJJ would destroy BJ. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gil finished him either.

really like jake a lot more after watching this, seems like a decent guy. but gsp is gonna straight up destroy him
yeh i think so . GSP is so well rounded and Jake is one dimensional
but He is damn good on the ground . Can Jake get it there is the question
man with that angle in the diaz daley fight...
You can easily see that the punch to the face after the body shot really did do some serious damage to daley
Finish Him!
Awesome first episode
Both guys are showing each other a lot of respect which is nice to see and they’re both undergoing tough camps to prepare for this fight. The one thing I’d like to see as a Shields fan is more cardio training because that is my main concern for this fight. I also hope that Jake was just trying to trick GSP with that talk about standing with him because striking should be the last thing on his mind, he needs to apply the pressure, dictate the pace and get GSP down on his back early in the fight, then smother him and wear him down to silence the crowd and put doubt in GSP’s head. Kos was able to do that towards the end of the first round of both fights (pity that he never bothered to train wrestling for the first fight and was blinded in one eye for 4 rounds in the rematch, which took away any chance of landing another takedown) so it can be done, I just hope Shields has the cardio to keep up a fast hard pace and he doesn’t allow GSP to control where the fight takes place or at what speed like so many others have done.
