It's the Monday after a great Strikeforce card and all I can think about is a possible super fight between two of the sports legends. Dan Henderson, a multi weight champion vs. Fedor, the greatest heavyweight to ever live. Sounds like I stepped into a time machine, flew back 7 or 8 years to Japan and am attending a great Pride Fighting Championship New Years Eve show, doesn't it?
Henderson, coming off another impressive victory in which his chin was tested, and his right hand proved again to be like a sledge hammer, vs. Fedor, coming off of a loss to a much bigger opponent. I don't know what weight this fight should take place at, but am almost thinking heavyweight, neither man would have to cut weight.
I know I'm not the first person to mention this match up, and I won't be the last. Henderson has one fight left on his current Strikeforce contract, and holds their light heavyweight belt. I'm not sure if their is a champions clause, but if there is, this is a perfect way to keep 'Hendo.' I mentioned Saturday night that a possible match up with Mo Lawal or Gegard Mousasi would almost be a perfect "changing of the guard," but now I don't know.
These are definitely the two biggest names Strikeforce has. Fedor is no bigger than Feijao, so there really is no weight advantage.I really can't come up with a downside to this match up. Everyone wins. You get a multitude of outcomes. Fedor wins (if the fight is contested at light heavyweight) and becomes a champion. Fedor wins (at heavyweight) and instantly becomes a favorite to fight the winner of the grand prix.
If Hendeson wins, he's solidified that he's the best light heavyweight Strikeforce currently has (if the fight is contested at light heavyweight), or becomes an even bigger legend, defeating Fedor at heavyweight. It's a win, win ,win for Strikeforce.
In the grand scheme of things, I see no downside to this match up! What do you guys think?
