Strikeforce: "Feijao vs. Henderson" kicked off its Showtime broadcast with a couple of lightweight contenders, as Jorge Masvidal and Billy Evangelista went to war.
As it turns out, it was more of a one-sided beating and as Chael Sonnen would say, it was Masvidal who was swinging the hammer. He took the unanimous decision win by scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27.
It was a relatively easy night for "Gamebred."
He peppered his opponent with jabs in the opening round and showed he was clearly the superior striker. His reach was simply too much for Evangelista to overcome.
It didn't get much better as the fight went on.
If the first round was a display of superior striking, the second was a display in superior grappling. Masvidal avoided every takedown attempt and in fact, snagged a couple of his own. When the fight went back to the feet, he made Billy pay with big knees.
By the final frame, Jorge was simply toying with his opponent, bobbing and weaving like he was a lightweight Anderson Silva.
A late flurry from Evangelista wasn't enough to save his undefeated record and he falls to 11-1-1 in his short career.
As for Masvidal, he's now 3-0 in Strikeforce and with the lack of top challengers at 155-pounds, don't be surprised to hear his name in future title discussions.
