(Pic) of Diego Sanchez's face after three rounds with Martin Kampmann at UFC on Versus 3 in Louisville, Ky., on March 3, 2011. That's gotta hurt. Still think he won? Thanks to the incomparable Tracy Lee for the bloody shot.

Very questionable

Though, I thought he won as well. Close fight. Great fight.

Kampman won the first round for sure

2nd and 3rd were very close. I had Sanchez squeezing out the win 29-28.

Same here

People forget the judge’s criteria, don’t they? “Effective striking, aggression and octagon control.” That describes Sanchez in R2 & R3. I think if Kampmann re-watches the fight, he’ll see why the judges tilted in Sanchez’es direction those last two rounds.

some guys cut easily, some dont.

it only takes 1 punch to cut you. it shouldnt account for shit.

Fedor as a prime example. Bruises when you touch gloves with him. Penn and Anderson dont get cut/bruise badly anyway after 320 punches

With all that said Diego won......I agree that he won

about 1 minute of the entire fight. He was 1 for 13 in takedowns. He got beaten everytime he aimlessly charged in with 4 & 5 punch fluries(which 1 or 2 usually landing). Kampmann’s counter striking was on point & punished Diego & beat his face worse than any otehr beating I have seen in the Octagon. I guess the samwe judges that scored Phan/Garcia did this one.

Tough one for Kampmann. He got a$$ raped in last 2 fights now

by fightfan on Mar 4, 2011 12:08 AM EST reply actions

yeah, i don't fucking get that

why is the hitman seemingly always in the shitty side of decisions? he got robbed straight up for the second time. Fucking judges can score for fuck

counterstrikers always get the short end of the stick.

On scorecards, it’s a lot more dangerous to be patient and effective than to be wild and completely ineffective in our sport.

Sal D’amato was one of the judges. That name may sound familiar because he though Nick Ring beat up Fukuda too!! As well as scoring rounds for Garcia in the WEC.

I love it when people make comments like this about this fight. Talking about how Sanchez didn’t land anything or way less than Kampmann, but if you like at the stats for the fight, Sanchez only landed 4 less punches in the second and was even in the third.

Kampmann won the first, no question about it. Stats will show that in the striking category both were pretty much even in the later rounds and since Diego was the one pressing the action and going for the kill, I don’t see why you wouldn’t give him the fight. People are so caught up on how a fighter looks after a fight that they don’t really pay attention to anything else. Like someone said early it only takes one punch to cut you up bad and looks don’t matter.

Diego use to be fairly buffed at 170lbs? now he looks like a chubby 170lbr… he shouldnt have lost that much muscle going to 155lbs…. what’s going on?

A great close fight!

But did all 3 judges have to give Diego rounds 2 and 3. I mean, they were close so what are the chances that all judges would score them for Sanchez… unless they weighed heavily on aggression. Could that have been the deciding factor for the judges in the last 2 rounds? Should it have trumped superior striking and visible bloody effen damage to the other opponent?

Wow are people really talking shit? Diego won.

From what I saw, Diego started coming back at about 2:15 of round 2. After that, Diego was pressing the action with constant pressure, and rocked Kampmann a couple of times. Great fight though. Kampmann is a crazy guy in the cage. Diego just wanted this fight more, it seems.

Kamp didn't get ROBBeD. It was a close fight.

But wut did he do in the 2nd & 3rd? Not much Diego went after it every chance he had. No doubt he busted Diego up in the 1st but didn’t go for any finshes or the kill in the 2nd or 3rd & tried coasting with jabs.

by GOLDIGGAH on Mar 4, 2011 3:56 AM EST reply actions

He annoys the hell out of me with leg kicks...

Every time someone throws one he goes fucking nuts. Bowles was tagging Page square in the face whenever he was throwing leg kicks last night but all you heard from Rogan was “OH HES EATING HIM UP WITH THOSE LEG KICKS!!”

by Perksy on Mar 4, 2011 6:03 AM EST up reply actions

Totally agree...

It is absolutely strategy, early in a fight, to eat a leg kick so you can counter strike. It is very difficult to throw a leg kick and not drop your hands — so it’s the perfect opportunity to land a significant headstrike. Bowles was consciously keeping his base and eating the kick so he could counter. Leg strikes take there toll over 15 minutes, but no one has ever won a fight via leg strikes in Round 1. Simmer down Joe. Fuck.

Wait you guys still watch the UFC without the mute button on?

Really the only commentary i bother with is when Miletich is doing it. Shitty part of that is that Maury or lil braces shammy is babbling next to him. Rogan and Goldy – i mean i dont need to listen to know what kind of dumb shit they’re noticing while not mentioning the important things happening in the fight. Bas – simply too damn much. Simply no good commentary in MMA anymore aside from Miletich and Schiavello (at least he’s got funny one liners and his play by play is crisp especially if you ignore the jokes).

don't you miss the crowd?

i constantly find myself missing rogan and mike when i hear the mexican broadcast team. Even worse, the mexican broadcast team tones down the ppv volume so you already miss tons of what the crowd is chanting and stuff.

Its amazing to me that with the abundance of skill

and knowledge around here that so many of you missed how many shots Kamp landed, this was not a close fight Kamp outstruct Dago by a ridiculous margin. I think some folks need to watch a little closer, that decision was almostenough to make me think this sport is turning into a huge joke!!!! What a joke, that fight was based on Dago;s three flurries in the last rnd, Kamp weathered and countered each of them. I can tell you the shots dago landed in those exchanges doesnt come close to the amount of shot Kamp landed, what a joke!!! 3 rnd UD fucking joke!
