I don’t think so. Sonnen will to smash Silva again. Remember Silva had rib rib injury during fought Sonnen last year. His injury free now. I believe Silva gonna to fuck Sonnen up in round one.
I think that “injury” was invented to discredit sonnen’s dominance in that fight. Silva will lose to a skilled wrestler because that style kills his style. Which isn’t striking…it’s counter striking. His fights lasted much longer against ground fighters and who’s better at controlling a fighter on the ground than sonnen? I hope the gracie camp is also showing him some submission defense so he can beat silva up and this time take the belt home with him.

Lindland, regardless of how his chin has deteriorated, has as much Greco-roman wrestling knowledge, and a better Greco resume, than anyone at Jackson’s. Don’t be so quick to scoff at someone who has lost a few fights. His time is passed, but his mind is still there. The knowledge can be passed on.
I don’t ever bet against GSP, or for a Diaz crewmember. I just think that bringing in a guy with the best Greco-roman wrestling credentials in MMA and teh guy with the secons best Greco-roman wrestling credentials (Sonnen was an Olympic alternate) as training partners is a wise move on Jake’s part. It can’t hurt.
Simple plan for GSP
Stand and bang (or jab) as Shields stand up is far from the best. Don’t get me wrong, I used to enjoy watching Lindland as I thought he was underrated however I do agree with you that his time is done in MMA. I don’t think that either of them can contribute anything to Shields given anyone who fights GSP is totally outclassed. Nobody takes improving their game any more seriously than GSP.

Askrens helping Jake out as well
Very smart from Jake and Cesar to bring in quality wrestlers whose styles have worked in MMA. Lindland is done as a fighter but is still a great teacher and both him and Chael can really help Shields improve on his Greco technique. Add Askren into the mix and you have a very good wrestling based camp. Jake will never be able to beat GSP on the feet but by bringing in great wrestlers that are a few lbs bigger along with his usual group of quality BJJ trainers and partners will do wonders for his ground game. As long as his cardio is up to standard and he’s able to avoid GSPs stiff jab and can dictate his own pace then he has a chance in this one. This is the first real threat for GSP in a long time.

I Don't Hate Anybody

Cardio is my main concern with Jake, he gassed out way too quickly against Kampmann and it almost cost him the fight. Luckily Martin is a horrible strategist and gave up takedowns looking for the guillotine instead of taking advantage of a gassed Jake on the feet. He’s now had time to resettle at 170 so it shouldn’t be as big of an issue this time but against someone as good as GSP you have to be prepared to fight for 5 hard rounds, otherwise you’ve lost before you even walk out there. Jake has proven that he can go 5 rounds at MW, as he did against Hendo and Mayhem, but I hope his spell at that division hasn’t made it too difficult for him to cut to 170.
A hard wrestling and BJJ camp with tireless workers like Sonnen, Gil and the Diaz Bros as well as the Greco-Roman expertise from Olympic standard wrestlers both old (Lindland) and young (Askren) should see him well prepared for a long grappling match and he should be well conditioned but until I see the fight I’ll have that worry.

I think GSP has a big chance to win, but Shields is no joke. Laugh at his stand up, but he’s got an amazing chin (Cesar Gracie student attribute, it seems), and if he’s training with Lindland (who, let’s not forget was once a serious MMA fighter, and still is a brilliant wrestler), Askren and Sonnoids, he’s going to be a serious threat.
I reckon GSP by close decision, but I won’t be surprised if Shields manages a sub win.
