Jon Jones makes 'Shogun' Rua tap via strikes at UFC 128? Did he or didn't he ... and does it really matter if he did? (Gif).

Yes and No.......

Yes he really tapped, and No, it doesn’t really matter that he did. I don’t think anything less of Shogun as a fighter for tapping….he was getting pummeled.

Correct

Yes he did tap in a beaten up haze and no it really didn’t matter. Rua new it was over and so did everyone else. I actually think Bones wanted it to go longer though he was having a great time throwing all kinds of smoke….. Still can’t believe it was so one sided.

by Rilly on Mar 21, 2011 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

I have no less respect for Rua, but I do have more respect for Bones skill. It is what it is, and Bones is for real. Although, I was sure that bones looked tired after rnd 1, and Greg Jackson seemed to hint at that after the fight.
Maybe chasing down a thief affected his adrenaline “dump”…ehhhhh, who knows.

Spot on. It was a tap. It was after the stoppage so it was still rightly judged to be a TKO. It does not reflect negatively on Shogun in any way.

agreed

I don’t see why people make a fuss about tapping to strikes.

by rodrc on Mar 21, 2011 11:50 PM EDT up reply actions

its just crazy to see it again and again!

At least no one here is saying its fixed! What a moron…

Yes he tapped… We used to see it all the time i think the difference is no one expected Rua to be so overwhelmed!!

Who the fuck would bet against Jones?!

All I know is, what comes around goes around.

Nobody stays at the top long. I can’t wait to see somebody bludgeon his ass someday. And for the record, yes shogun tapped. I don’t expect him to endure more of that to entertain me. Live to fight another day.

anderson silva has been champ for almost four years? silva is very scared to fight JBJ's

Expect 8 years for your dream to possibly come true.

The University of Utah is off to the Pac-12 Conference and will be in the South Division. Hopefully we will get to the first ever Pac-12 Championship Game. Jon " Bones " Jones new light heavyweight champion. Even if jones got struck flush in the face he would recover and defeat whoever is in front of him. I told everyone the fight would be easy. Almost felt sorry for Rua. Anderson Silva would never fight "Bones".

I don't see what the big deal is...

I’ve said it a thousand times, once you get KO’d it happens more frequently. Why would someone want to risk their career for pride? I’d rather live to fight another day.

by Shadyone33 on Mar 21, 2011 10:14 PM EDT reply actions

Also...

I give Shogun mad respect. He was hurt in the 1st and hung on a LONG time against Jones. Jones can hurt you even if you have him in full guard with that reach.

I rather die in the ring like a warrior.

No, he was offered a postponement when Evans got injured.

He was just beaten by a better fighter who came in with a perfect gameplan.

Give shogun credit.

Most men would of tapped a lot sooner to those strikes. He didn’t give up till he didn’t have anything left in him.

by Boogymans on Mar 21, 2011 10:16 PM EDT reply actions

Yes he did at the end tho herb stopped it right before the tap. Either way makes no diff outcomes still same ruas still a bad ma fucker jones is jus that much better according to what we all witnessed

YUP Tapped like a punk

no he does not deserve any credit the only reason he survive the first round was because Jones was not over committing .

how can you say he is P4P BEST in big ol capital letters

and then say “right after Anderson Silva”

you would think since you emphasized P4P BEST than you would think he is THE best…but you dont, you think he is #2

P4P is now Jon "Bones" Jones. when the former p4p king is scared to fight this guy he moves down a notch.

Does anybody think that the UFC should do force fighters to make weight on fight night also?

Bones looked like a heavyweight against a lightweight Shogun, I think it’s a unfair advantage to weigh 20 lbs more

It's fun until someone gets hurt...... then it's hilarious

by Norteco664 on Mar 21, 2011 11:58 PM EDT reply actions

EVERYONES DOIN IT...

As long as everyone does it then it’s fair game… If it were only one or two then fair – SCANDAL, but the majority of fighters have made this a part of their preparation into a fight. and im sorry but Shogun didnt look like a lightweight at all… Not like he went into that fight @ or under 205…. you’re dreaming if you think he did…

your right. Barboza and Anthony N. looked like ww when they fought. those two guys are the biggest lightweights i have ever seen

G. Tibau too but he is kinda short. the other guys are in the 5 feet 11 inch range.

Maybe Shogun should cut to Middleweight

by TheBiggertheyare... on Mar 24, 2011 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions

These guys are very strong and have been become even stronger. I don’t think this is a shame to tap claiming for the end. It’s a matter of survive in some cases. He did actually but I don’t give much importance to that. He was walking dead before the body shot and then the knee came and he probably thought the worst was about to come.

by Eduardo Cruz on Mar 22, 2011 9:44 AM EDT reply actions

Doesn't matter to me

He was messed up since the 1st round.

by The Art Of War on Mar 22, 2011 12:04 PM EDT reply actions

he tapped but it has no significance the fight was over.

Shogun will beat Jones in a rematch 100% sure.
I predicted his defeat, but Jones’s style makes it Shogun’s fight next time guaranteed.

SHOGUN!!

Of course

he tapped, absolutely definitely and incontrovertibly.

And yes, it matters.
Because of one, extremely obvious and simple reason :

It means, that if Mazagotti was the ref, for this fight…………..

The second, he saw the tap………

He would have immediately disqualified Jones, and Rua would still be the champ.
