Yoshihiro Akiyama shares the view of his adopted hometown of Japan, which was recently ravaged by a killer earthquake-tsunami combination. "Sexy" -- who had to withdraw from his UFC 128 fight with Nate Marquardt this weekend because of the tragedy -- and his family members are safe for now.

geisha

and yeah, i’d rather see his wife. So hawt

Is it me or is the world seemingly going to hell fast. A few years ago floodings were the IT thing in mexico, leaving close to 50,000 families without a home and that very same year the tsunami that wiped out asia. Last year it was chile and not long ago the mud slides in brazil. Now it’s japan and what else is new?

Crazy times, really.

I feel for japan and everything, but I think it’s clear akiyama is ducking Nate here. He’ll use anything for an excuse to pull out, and if that means some water in his country so be it.

I’m a fan and everything sexy, but come on dude. Fighters get injured and fight through them, this just happens in mma. No need to duck your opponent tho, that’s low..

Shogun Rua p4p best, I called it.

Water just isn’t enough for me sorry, sexy is always making excuses.

Fair enough, though it’s slightly more than….water. I wonder if he actually would have came in shape and not gassed after the first round, probably not

Terrible tragedy but....

Akiyama is an excuse machine. He had excuses for his fight with Leben and was going to lose this fight with Marquardt. Akiyama is not a fighter. Just a guy who wanted to “try out” fighting.

As an example, look at Farve. Lost his father and still went out and started MNF.

I’ve talked to some friend in Tokyo and everyone there still got up Monday morning and either went to work, or if they didn’t have an office anymore, they went to find somewhere they could work to keep the economy ticking.

Akiyama should have decided to fight and donate his purse to the recovery in Japan.

To be fair Tokyo was not hit as bad as other places, it was away from the main impact

by eagzy on Mar 14, 2011 8:24 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

You are right, and worth mentioning. My only point was that people still went back to their jobs, whatever they were, to help lift spirits there. Akiyama chosing not to fight does not accomplish this.

don't feed the troll

not two days ago he was stating the eartquake was all jackson in order to beat akiyama.

you’re seriously retarded, danago

danago,

trolling the way you do from time-to-time is one thing and joking around that it was jackson’s behind things is clearly tongue-in-cheek, but to go so far as to say

“He’ll use anything for an excuse to pull out, and if that means SOME WATER IN HIS COUNTRY so be it.”
well, that is just literally one of the most ignorant things I have read on Mania to date, and that says a lot.

Please read this article thoroughly here about how significant the event in Akiyama’s country was to the planet, not just to him and his countrymen and country and then think again before posting something so offensive, please. I know you can do better than that to make your point.

You keyboard idiots make me laugh. Go get your ass kicked in a cage, then maybe you’ll have earned the right to talk shit about fighters ducking people.

I just heard there was a Rrd nuclear plant explosion.

This is scary shit.

All those saying he is ducking....

Your world must be really small. Akiyama must know a lot of people family and friends in Japan…it is his home. Just about any of them could have or could still be killed, seriously injured or in desperate need of help that he might be able to provide. That and the worry.
What is happening/happened in Japan is no trivial thing.

…..you guys need to get some life experience and/or read a paper. Maybe you are just young and don’t know how these things work yet.

I never posted b4 but those bitching about the fight switch are acting pretty low.
