Not even winning "Fight of the Night" is enough to save UFC lightweights from the massive cuts still coming down after the merger with the WEC.
Gareth Davies (via FiveOuncesofPain) brings word that British striker Paul Kelly (11-4) has been released from the promotion after his second round submission loss to Donald Cerrone (14-3) at UFC 126: "Silva vs. Belfort" on Feb. 5. The "sucker punch" reportedly had nothing to do with the decision to let "Tellys" go.

that suckerpunch was weak
would be a good addition to SF’s LW division tho
Cum on my face?
StrikerDave- Sig bet dodger
he comes out to fight and scrap
Dana needs to keep people like Paul instead of fighters who are content to just lay and pray to a decision, IMO fighters like that who start to lose should be getting the axe first, not Kelly
People should touch gloves before the bell, not after.
I think it’s stupid to take the chance touching gloves once the round’s started. It also completely negates the option to charge the guy at the very start without it being totally obvious.
I don’t understand the need when they meet in the middle before the fight starts anyway
You have a point but he gave Cerrone the nod that they would and then didn't.
It's all about the entertainment.
Totally agree!!!
Paul is one of the few Brits I am a fan of. Love to watch him scrap.
Why would the UFC cut a FOTN participant – that’s like negating the title. It should be against policy.
If Paul signs somewhere else, that means I won’t see him faight anymore!
Touch gloves B4 and after the fight; forget the rest. Shut up, Joe Rogan.
too bad he sucks
and just for the cheap shot alone he deserves it,
Eh… he will be back. Someone will get hurt and he will jump in at the last second.
Gutted for Paul! He always throws down and has been involved in some wild scraps! Sure he’ll get a good deal elsewhere though…all the best mate!
Gareth Davies i love you
I opened my big mouth infront of Two_Words so he pimp-slapped it shut! That’s the last time I challenge his MMA knowledge. Oh yeah, and I like dudes
Is this the real Telegraph reporter or an imposter?

WTF does the ufc do flip a fuckin coin
if they want excitement i dont understand why they would let kelly go???
haha charade you are....
Those Brits sure do get it easy
They need UK ighters so badly, I am actually shocked they cut him. I mean Paul taylor was 3-5 going into his last fight and they gave him an almost sure win with Gabe “colonics” Rudiger. I respect ALL fighters, but Bisping and UK fighters get so many more chances and more winnable fights.
Freenow
I was just talking about you (we needed someone who understood Russian), and I brought up how I havent seen you around in ages.
I havent been posting AS much, but unless Ive just been missing the threads you’re in, you’ve been MIA?

Damn I always enjoy watching Tellys fight…..sharktank ain’t the word for the LW division atm, even worse. He does well in SF or Bellator though. I’m guessing he will fight a few times in a small promotion across the pond and try to get back into the UFC though.
I really hope your right.
Winning or losing, he brings the action. Tellys, do the small promotion thing, and come back to the UFC!
