Nate Diaz sets CompuStrike striking record for three round MMA fight in win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 141

Nate Diaz put on quite possibly the best performance of his career last night (Dec. 30, 2011) at UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem, defeating Donald Cerrone via unanimous decision after three rounds thanks to relentless, laser-like striking.
How precise? Accurate enough to set a CompuStrike record for a three round mixed martial arts (MMA) fight.
Diaz landed an astounding 82 percent of his strikes, connecting on 258 out of 314 punches. After plenty of pre-fight trash talk from both competitors, the fight, unsurprisingly, never hit the ground for the entire 15 minutes. On the contrary, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt under Cesar Gracie -- who displayed improved boxing in his submission victory over Takanori Gomi at UFC 135 -- took his striking to a whole new level in his dominant UFC 141 win over "Cowboy."
He can likely thank striking coach Richard Perez, who is responsible for sharpening Nate's, along with the rest of the Cesar Gracie fight team's boxing skills, which also includes Nick Diaz, Gilbert Melendez and Jake Shields. Often criticized for not possessing knockout power, the Diaz brothers have proved once again that their "peppering" style of striking is more than enough to get the job done.
By contrast, Cerrone -- who is one of the better strikers in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight division and who possesses a kickboxing record of 28-0-1 -- only landed 33 percent of his strikes as he landed only 66 out of 200 attempted strikes.
That's how they roll in the 209, son. Recognize.

Nate dropped Gomi, rocked Cerrone multiply times.
Bisping doesn’t do what they do. They may not have a whole lot of punching power, but it’s enough to rock and drop decent guys.

it’s that they choose to use their energy differently. It’s brilliant if you ask me. they’re like wolvarines: predators that keep coming forward no matter what. nate managed to completely overwhelm an undefeated pro kickboxer. last time i checked nate didn’t have a pro boxing or kickboxing record. just like nick did to daley and kj, nate came in and beat cerrone at his own game. and beat him badly.

I could see him getting a TKO against a Joe Lauzon or a Sam Stout
The thing is... Nate changed speed/power on his punches, setting up the power shots with softer, crisp blows.
Cowboy was clearly outmatched on the feet.

Sure a lot of his shots aren’t “power” shots but they’re enough to knock most guys out. What amazes me about the Diaz boys is that they seem to have more energy and power in the 3rd than they do in the 1st

He is a very good fighter but overhyped. Which in turn earned him the label of overrated. His stand up is crisp and flashy, but not as good as it seems.

He has won good stylistic match ups. The 4-1 thing is nice when you look at the numbers but when you take a deeper look in his was overrated. Talk of a title shot was very premature. Especially in that the number contender not only beat him once, but twice.

I just dont see it. I know people like what he did vs Oliviera. But in the WEC he was outclassed twice by both Varner and Bendo. He is very talented but he isnt elite. I actually think a loss is the best for him right now so he can go back improve and hit his prime the best Cerrone he can possibly be.
