UFC 141 results: Alistair Overeem doesn't think Brock Lesnar should retire from MMA
Following his crushing first round technical knockout loss at the hands of Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC 141 in Las Vegas last night, Brock Lesnar announced his retirement from MMA.
No doubt his absence from future fight cards will deal a decidedly large blow to the pocketbooks of those in command of the world's largest fight promotion. But when it's time to go, it's time to go. Or, as UFC President Dana White put it, "guys know when it's time to retire."
Indeed, Lesnar has been suffering through medical issues for years now, including a bout with diverticulitis that forced him to undergo surgery to remove 12 inches of his intestines earlier this year. It's hard enough fighting the best heavyweights in the world. Dealing with faulty equipment while attempting to do so is an exercise in futility.
And so, the Brockness Monster retreats to the cold, blistery confines of his home in Minnesota to enjoy his time with his family. But there's one man who doesn't want to see him go.
The man who sent him on his road to retirement, "The Reem." From the UFC 141 post-fight press conference:
"I think he shouldn't walk away. Because, love him or hate him, but it's always something when Brock's fighting, like Dana said. I mean, he's a guy who goes for it. I think he achieved a lot in a short span and yeah, it would be a shame if he stops now. I think there's still more to gain for him."
There's no questioning the fact that Lesnar accomplished a lot in the short amount of time he was involved in the sport. He signed a deal with the UFC in 2008, won the heavyweight championship that same year after just two fight with the promotion and successfully defended it twice over the next two years.
But once he was hit with diverticulitis he was simply never the same.
Cain Velasquez embarrassed him in the first round of their UFC 121 fight to take the 265-pound title and now Overeem has done the same at UFC 141 just over a year later, taking his last chance to earn a crack at winning it back.
Really, this seems like the proper time for Lesnar to call it quits. Does he have more to gain in the sport? Overeem says he does but it doesn't quite seem that way to me.
Maniacs, what do you think?

How is Brock a freakshow? Because he was a WWE wrestler? Never mind the fact that he was a NCAA D-1 Champion, never mind that he is a freak athlete that was able to not only get the UFC gold, but defend it as well. All the while fighting the toughest 8 fight schedule in the history of MMA.
What a doosh…
Everybody reads your post and what they think is "WWE WWE WWE WWE WWE WWE...."
That’s what goes through their minds.
They just want to put down their WWE WWE WWE posts instead of reading FACTS.
Those are the types of posters who are pathetic.
I'd say he should stay but............
The way he’s betting getting the shit beat out of him makes me think that he’s not fully committed to fighting , and I would hate to see someone like Mitrione or Rob Broughton demolish him too . It would really bring down the whole division.

The thing is, Brock is just not a fighter. He doesn’t have a fighter’s heart. He was just a freak athlete who was able to come and run through some competition that was not up to par. The UFC HW division was weak, nowadays, not so much…
I disagree.
Let’s see you have a near-DEATH experience(Diverticulitus) and come back the same MENTALLY.
I think it really changed Brock’s perception of life in general when he was faced with his own mortality.
The Day diverticulitis almost killed Brock was the day Brock’s “mojo” and Brockness-Monster persona was killed completely.
who gives a shit talk about the real show nate puttin a stockton beatdown on that pussy
A cowboy ain’t had his ass beat that bad since broke back mountain

Lesnar should quit OR....
travel around like a real fighter and go to real camps where there’s coaches that will teach you what you need to learn and do.
A fighter that is his own coach can’t possibly be at his best.
"Did you know that if you mix equal parts
of gasoline and equal parts frozen orange juice
concentrate, you can make napalm?"
What’s the point? He doesn’t have it in him to go further, better to retire then to continue on when you’ve got nothing left. Fighting is not a good sport to not be in 100%.
Agreed. Besides, he already reached the Pinnacle of this sport when he became the UFC HW Champ.
There’s nothing else for him to do, tbh.
Hahaha I just remembered something
A bunch of cheap jizz mopping, cum guzzling, food stamp using ,bandwagon hopping whores kept saying RUSH N CRUSH Brock tko 1st round . Well fuck if they aint quiet now .

to be honest, it was the right move for him to be more cautious
but really….Reem is just a true beast in every sense of the word.
He’s the real-life version of “PREDATOR”.
so.. this worked out for Dana.
Have your prized new signing demolish your biggest draw on the new years card. End of Brock, start of the Reem era.

Give Mir to Overeem first!
That guy talked a lot and said Reem would look horrible against Brock.
It disappoints me when some vocal people in cyberspace hide behind a pseudonym and make malicious and baseless attacks against athletes that have never failed a screen for banned substances. These keyboard toxicologists think that they can merely look at an athlete and "know" that so-and-so is a "juicer." There is a term for that. It's called "delusions of grandeur," and medication may help. (Dr. Johnny Benjamin)
the reem?
waiting for his next fight cause this one did not convinced me at all about his skill.
But i guess the next one is again DOS SANTOS !oops
And when he catches Reem the same way he caught Cain....but doesn't go down like Cain did...
…JDS is fucked.
Reem is going to be the new UFC HW Champ.
hope this is the last of the pro wrestlers turned mma fighters

can we stop making excuses?
brock had 12 inches of his intestines removed, but that means he still has about 25 feet of intestines left. people carry on as if he’s down to his last 4 inches of intestines. you know why lesnar doubled over from those kicks to the mid-section? it was because a professional MMA fighter was kicking him in the stomach. it had nothing to do with any surgery. was lesnars surgery invasive? yes. was it actually “major surgery”? no. fighters have more difficult surgery performed on broken hands than what lesnar did on his colon.
Don't talk about what you don't know.
The surgery is very serious and can in fact kill you. My father is going through this right now and the stuff he goes through is quite unbelievable. The fact that Brock has even fought after getting it twice his impressive. Was the kick bad because of the surgery? Of course it wasn’t the direct cause. But by no means is it minor surgery
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

I heard he was getting his ribs checked out and I wouldn't be surprised if one of his ribs WERE Broken so...
..to echo Redfox’s sentiment in a much more harsh way :
SHUT UP, tha dude. Don’t talk about what you don’t know.
There is some truth to the fact that his illness stole his mojo
but honestly, I don’t think he was ever a real fighter who was committed to the sport. His celebrity and his mouth fast tracked him to a title shot when the HW division was weak. Somebody above said he fought the toughest schedule in the history of MMA…..I say REALLY? He fought Heath Herring and a blown up 205er who was mid 40’s in Randy Couture for 2 of his 5 victories in his 5-3 record? That’s the toughest schedule in MMA history? Hardly. Somebody also said he only likes to play when he wins…..and I think that comment is spot on. Again, none of us has gone through the health issues that he has but then just walk away if you are not going to be FULLY committed to the career instead of just trying for one last cheap glory in maybe winning a big fight. We know he doesn’t like getting hit in the face or hit in the body. MMA fighters by nature are tough as nails and it always amazes me the punishment they can take and not even wince yet we saw Lesnar wince left and right. The baddest man on the planet?? Legend in his own mind. Enjoy your retirement and I hope we never see you again in the Octagon pretending to be a fighter.
Yeah Okay. Brock was "pretending to be a fighter" just like he was pretending to be the UFC HW Champion.
Just like he was pretending to be the ONLY GUY who can garner 1,000,000 buys by just taking a shit by himself.
Just like he was pretending to help bring in MORE FANS to the UFC due to his celebrity-status.
Just like he was pretending to be hurt BADLY by Overeems kicks which, I have no doubt, broke a rib or two.
good lord…you people are just hating for the sake of hating.
You all can’t face FACTS : The UFC’s growth wouldn’t have been where it was at so quickly without Brock’s presence to speed it up at Mach 10…..THAT is his legacy which Dana and the Fertittas will always appreciate.
Gotta give it to Overeem is he really classy and level headed and his head movement impressed me he fought a good fight.
