Kimbo Slice boxing Charles Hackmann on Friday night (Dec. 30) in Miami

Can Kimbo Slice notch his third straight win as a boxer on Friday night in Miami? Photo via Esther Lin.

Brock Lesnar vs. Kimbo Slice?

They won't be fighting inside the cage, but they will be going head-to-head in the same time slot tomorrow night (Dec. 30, 2011) in their respective sports.

Lesnar will try to get back into the heavyweight title hunt against Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC 141 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, while Slice (2-0), real name Kevin Ferguson, will look to notch his third straight win as a boxer by taking on Charles Hackmann (0-1) at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma.

Our friends at Fight Nerd brought word of the pending bout earlier today.

A one-time EliteXC attraction, Ferguson was knocked out by Zuffa castaway Seth Petruzelli on network television and then failed to make the grade on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10. The UFC eventually released him after getting stopped by Matt Mitrione at UFC 113 back in May 2010.

While Slice couldn't cut the mustard as a mixed martial artist, he's been able to find success as a part-time pugilist, turning the lights out on a pair of club fighters earlier this year.

Video of his foray into the sweet science, after the jump.

Star-divide

Video starts at the 0:23 mark.

Anyone ready to scrap their Friday night plans to go see Kimbo box?

Anyone?

Why would they give him a fight with someone with a record? Hes a rookie himself with a 2-0 record.

He’s old but still a rookie. He’s a beginner, late starter with little to no professional boxing experience. He’s still a club fighter himself .Not only would he get mauled by the Adameks, and Areola’s and K bros. he doesn’t deserve to skip the line and get a fight with any of them. I think people get his popularity mixed up wuith his experience. Just like he didn’t belong on the UFC’s big stage he doesn’t belong on boxings either. I still like watching him though. I’ll check the fight out on you tube because I don’t think anybody is airing it anywhere.

Nobody else that is new to boxing gets this much recognition in the first place

If his status is high enough to be blogged about, then give him an actual fight with someone that has a record that is equivalent to his. He has only fought people with a losing record.. thats ridiculous. Why cant they give him a fight with someone that has a winning record?

Kimbo vs James Toney

That would be a good fight..and a known fighter compared to this guy hes fighting tomorrow night

by Captain Koolaid on Dec 29, 2011 3:08 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Toney would kill Kimbo in a boxing match.

In MMA, I’d take Kimbo’s slightly less worse ground game for a unanimous decision.

by d.rok on Dec 29, 2011 3:25 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Did you see Toney's last fight? He can't beat bum boxers anymore. Kimbo would work him now.

Toney is just collecting checks now. He doesn’t care about training plus he’s up there in age.

noooooooooo that would not be good fight, listen have you ever heard of promoters hand picking fights

well kimbo has his fights hand picked, but u never know maybe later he will continue to evolve as they milk their cash cow… i mean an overhand right w/ no set up w/ a jab : REALLY??? toney and kimbo would not be a great fight, it would bring home mooollaa w/ kimbo getting probably 35% of the purse but a good fight it would not be… boxing is a craft, just like wrestling, muay thai, and bjj- it takes time to develop good footwork, conditioning, slipping punches, counter jabs and counter power shots w/out overly exposing yourself…

by rjohnson2842 on Dec 29, 2011 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

Correct... Kimbo doesn't even have his footwork down yet..

he starts walking toward his opponent.. left foot forward at all times brotha..

No... There is no doubt Kimbo punches like a mack truck... But believe when I tell you.

Boxing is not about relying on your KO punch… You HAVE got to pace yourself… vs. MMA where KO’s via one strike are more likely to happen..

They are just building him up bro.. you never know.

Boxing is all about experience Period… I know the same can be said for other sports but I am telling you right now there has never been a Boxer with a record of 4-0 come on the scene and beat vet’s like you have seen in MMA… Its not just about learning the actual science…

You have to get ring experience, learn what pace is best for you etc.. Also you got to learn the cheats like hugging, punching shoulders, slipping a jab and hooking the elbow (or preventing that from happening) Ring control…

The pace is the most important thing though cuz in MMA you can just keep punching someone repeatedly even when they are hurdled up trying to block and still be effective.. In boxing you’ve got to pick your shots or you’ll be punching nothing but gloves.

I APOLOGIZE if the info/answers Im looking for are ALREADY in the post

I cant stand the clown show freak circus event that is 38 yr old Kimbo & boxing & Gary Shaw. Kimbo, with the body of a 55 yr old and cardio of some1 of a similar age must be fighting a guy Gary Shaw found taht make Gary Goodridge look like Anserson Silva.

Kimbo’s opponent will probably………

MOST likely be 40 or older.
MOST likely he’ll only have a few fights( in past 10 yrs or so) & most likely 0-3, 0-4 or 1-4 MOST likely oppnt is HW that weighs 2-3 lbs above HW MIN & 30+lbs less than Kimbo
MOST likely hasnt trained much at all in past SEVARAL yrs & is outta shape
LASTLY, its a guy that would NEVER maek more than $300 to fight
AND NEVER, EVER, EVER get a high profile fight EVER again
LASTLY he’ll know he’s gettingi set up 2 lose
BUT will make 10X MORE than he EVER made in a fight(which is better than working 2 months at his present gig), so it’ll be worth his while to get KO’d quickly

About sums up the criteria for picking a suitble opponetn for Kimbo. Im not a WWE fan, but Id rather watch a WWE match. It’d be MORe realistic than a Kimbo-dive fight

Size means nothing in boxing. Its all about endurance and technique. If the 2nd guy is not a can then he beats Kimbo.

Size does mean something actually

He is half the size of Kimbo.. thats just crazy. The smaller guy may be much quicker, but he will, most of the time, be much less strong…

Big guy will hit much harder… most of the time

Size only matters when both men are of equal skill. Then physics take over. Again, in boxing, technique and endurance are the edge. Not size.

I am sure you are bigger than a 135 lb boxer, right? No offense, but I would put my entire savings on the smaller guy to school you and make you cry like a baby.

You shouldnt bet on the crying part

But I wouldnt expect to beat a professional boxer in that weight class either in a boxing match. I have boxed for many years but I dont feel I would be a real competition to a pro fighter. If I was a professional boxer that fought as much as a 135 pounder, I would, feel much more apt to winning that fight
