Before you jump all over this and start shouting "Anderson this or that" or "GSP has better resume because he beat x or y fighter" allow me to present my argument of why Jon Jones is head and shoulders above all others competing in MMA,
Jones is the champ in the toughest division in MMA at 205. Just last night he empathetically removed former division king Lyoto Machida from his senses. Before that he successfully defended his title against a dangerous and hungry Rampage Jackson, by stopping him in the 4th, and thus becoming the only man to stop Quinton inside the octagon. He started his blitzkrieg by violently taking the belt from former Pride Grand Prix Champ and UFC LHW champ Shogun Rua, in what was a complete one sided "fight" that ended with Rua tapping to strikes. That is 3 finishes in a row againt the best of the best and is the top of the heap in the very best division in all of MMA.Even beore he had completely smashed every other contender out there. He became the first man to finish and beat highly touted prospect Ryan Bader, he destroyed Brandon vera then stopped gritty tough nosed veteran Vladimir Matyushenko in about a minute. Quite simply the man can't be touched.
Jon Jones' skill level, Jon Jones' conditioning, Jon Jones' application to the sport is at this moment...unique, and he stands alone.
