The welterweights will be going to war inside the hexagon early next year, as a pair of Strikeforce prospects, Tyron Woodley vs. Jordan Mein, have been booked to square off against each other at the "Rockhold vs. Jardine" event on Jan. 7, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The promotion announced the match-up late yesterday.
Woodley, just two years into his mixed martial arts career, is already 9-0 with seven of those wins coming under the Strikeforce banner. His latest victory, a unanimous decision drubbing over Paul Daley back in July, was supposed to be the catalyst to bigger and better things for the American Kickboxing Academy product.
It wasn't. But squashing another prospect should do him some good.
Despite the fact that he's just 21-years-old, Jordan Mein has amassed a record of 23-7 since his professional debut back in June 2006. That includes a third round technical knockout win over Evangelista Santos in his Strikeforce debut back in September.
He's currently riding a six fight win streak and hoping to break into the big time at the expense of Woodley. Prospect pick-off time!
Strikeforce: "Rockhold vs. Jardine" is headlined by yep, you guessed it, Luke Rockhold and Keith Jardine, which is worth watching for no other reason than it might see "The Dean of Mean" become middleweight champion despite going 3-6-1 over his last 10 fights.
