PrintRemember these comments, from fossilized fight promoter Bob Arum, that we posted right here on MMAmania.com back in Sept. 2009? Well, looks like they've come back to bite him in the ass in this latest UFC on FOX video promo (above).
Here's a taste:
"The UFC are a bunch of skinhead white guys watching people in the ring who also look like skinhead white guys. 90-percent of the people in the audience wear tattoos. For me and people like me, it is not something they ever care to see. They watched it, it's horrible, guys rolling around like homosexuals on the ground. I mean it's not a sport that shows great, great talent. The guys who throw punches can't throw a punch to save their ass, when the punches land, the guys have no chins. These guys are not like boxers."
See his entire rant here, which sounds pretty foolish when you consider the biggest night in the history of the promotion, a heavyweight title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos at UFC on FOX on Nov. 12, is being contested between a Mexican and a Brazilian. And to be fair, at the time of his comments, we were just a few months removed from the UFC 98 headliner between Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida.
Hello, Mr. Arum? I have comeuppance on line one...

Arum is a moron!
He’s just hoping that he can convince those who don’t know any better that the UFC/MMA isn’t worth watching. But his attempts will fail miserably! And Boxing is about to slip further away with MMA going mainstream.

i think it really gives a reflection of what some of the old time boxing promoters think of us and of other people that are different
A lot of people are resistant to change and Arum is one of them.

that seems like something a fan would cook up online. i can’t see a large corporation like fox sports out right trying to make someone look foolish. especially when they still air boxing events. real or fake good promo

It was throughout the 90s…In fact FOX aired 1 or 2 Mike Tyson bouts…at least one horrible fight against Buster Mathis if I’m remembering correctly..

i highly doubt that this is real.
i’ve never seen it on actual TV, and the foul language might cut it on a TV show, but certainly not in a promo commercial.

Mixed martial arts is the best sport in the world. The most purest form of competition. Im glad I got to watch this beautiful sport grow. This guy is a fool but I guess everyones entitled to an opinion

This is BY FAR the best trailer that the UFC has ever done. I watched it like 7 times in a row and it gave me goosebumps every time. I CAN NOT WAIT for this fight. I see big things. I only wish I could invest some money in the UFC at this point.

I like boxing...
…but what a nincumpoop. Other than Pacquiao fights, there really isn’t shit else out there for boxing. MMA is the NEW, it’s just too bad the “faces” of MMA will never get paid as much as the “faces” of boxing, which is sad.
