"I'm very glad he's in such good shape... Machida family is doing a great job. He's doing amazing, he's fast and strong. Doing what he did on the light heavyweight division it's not usual... Lyoto has the weapons to defeat Jon Jones. I have great Boxing experience and it's hard to see a heavy weight fighter who moves and does what he does... There are few: Anderson (Silva), (Junior) Dos Santos, Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali). I trust Lyoto, I believe we'll bring the fourth title to Brazil."
In the hopes of not going too overboard, Lyoto Machida's boxing coach, Luis Carlos Dorea, tells Tatame.com that his pupil has the moves that are equivalent to the likes of boxing greats such has Muhammad Ali. The fact that Machida has just two (technical) knockouts courtesy of his hands, against Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva, respectively, would seem to imply he's far from an elite level striker the likes of "The Greatest." That didn't stop his boxing coach from giving him such high praise. Dorea, who also trains UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and newly crowned UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos, also had no qualms about putting those two in the same sentence. Understandably, a trainer's job is to praise and instill confidence in their athletes; however, we're talking about Muhammad freaking Ali here. Are any of you calling blasphemy on Dorea's comments when comparing his Brazilian team to one of the greatest boxers who ever lived?
