Around SBN: UFC 146 Results: Junior dos Santos TKO's Frank Mir

Report: UFC on FOX 2 scheduled for Jan. 28 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois

Photo

UFC on FOX, which featured a heavyweight title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, was a ratings home run, peaking with a staggering 8.8 million viewers during the Nov. 12 telecast.

So what does the promotion have planned for an encore?

UFC on FOX 2, naturally. After all, every great show demands a sequel and with a seven year stretch ahead of them, the world's largest fight promotion isn't wasting any time in getting its brand back on the air.

Yahoo! Sports has the report:

Multiple sources confirm that Jan. 28 is the target for UFC on Fox 2 in Chicago at the United Center.

Shoehorning UFC on FOX 2 into a late January slot is an ambitious move, considering how crowded the current 2012 schedule has already become. UFC 142: "Aldo vs. Mendes" kicks things off on Jan. 14, followed by UFC on FX a week later.

UFC 143: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz" follows the rumored FOX event on Feb. 4. Oversaturation? Not if the fights deliver.

Stay tuned.

I wouldnt be surprised if they try and do Chael vs Anderson. But I think he is injured til at least February right? They definitely do a big fight though.

HW title – Too soon turn around for Brock/Overeem
LHW title – Too soon turn around for JBJ
MW title – Possibly depending on injury for Anderson
WW – Possible fight that could be rescheduled to be on FOX
LW – Scheduled for Japan
FW – Scheduled for Brazil
BW – Possibly depending on Cruz injury and what happens on Saturday between Faber/Bowles

no he can fight now

he just wants to duck sonnen so he’s claiming now that he will only fight him in Brazil which he knows is completely impossible. Are Silva and Mayweather buddies?

Definately Lightweights.

UFC on Fox 2 on January 28th
and then another UFC on Fox on Feb 4?

The success wont be really known til the 2nd FOX event.

or even this Saturdays.

Sure, 8.8 million (give or take) tuned in, but how many of those “new eyes” were impressed enough to buy the PPV or even tune in to watch the next FOX event. Remember 8.8 million were built on hype.

Well I there arent many ww that arent booked & hes got a cpl decent wins over diego & story(who beat alves) so it seemed to make sense. Im not a fan of hathaway per say, but hes a decent ww with room to grow

by JonBon Joey on Nov 17, 2011 6:58 PM EST reply actions

Hope it's stacked

I was really hoping that they would give Fox the biggest fights possible to receive high ratings. But I really don’t see any champion being ready by this date. Maybe Silva vs Sonnen II like some of you guys mentioned, but it seems that Silva won’t be healed by then. If they don’t maintain their ratings I really don’t see MMA surviving mainstream. As a huge MMA fan, I hope they prove me wrong and put on the best card.

by Turaldo on Nov 17, 2011 7:02 PM EST reply actions

Yea if they cant get silva/sonnen 2 then Rashad seems like the only other option. Im not sure if Phil Davis is the guy they want headling against rashad not only by name recognition, but also from the standpoint of delivering exciting fights..Hopefully the winner of shogun hendo comes out unscathed ready to fight Rashad.

Id like to see them move Edgar/Bendo to this card if nothing else cuz like u said they really need to put on a exciting card…Chris Leben v Robbie Lawler for co main or at least on the card, ive been dying to see that fight

by JonBon Joey on Nov 17, 2011 7:10 PM EST up reply actions

Great fight choices

Those are great choices, like you said a title eliminator between Evans and Henderson vs Shogun winner would be awesome. Just as you said however, hope that the winner is unscathed. Edgar vs Ben Henderson would have delivered and that would be the kind of fight that I would love for a card on Fox. Main event Edgar vs Bendo, maybe introduce a flyweight title they have been talking about as the Co-main between Joseph Benavidez vs Ian McCall, preceded by Evans vs Shogun/Hendo.

by Turaldo on Nov 17, 2011 7:20 PM EST up reply actions

Holy Smokes!

I 4got about the flyweights coming in. Dana said that would happen asap in 2012 so u could be right..If not tho they flyweight title fight could replace maybe the edgar/bendo fight in japan or wutever fight they plan on using

by JonBon Joey on Nov 17, 2011 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

Great idea

That wouldn’t be a bad replacement, to give Fox the bigger names.

by Turaldo on Nov 17, 2011 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

I guess Guillard vs Jim miller will headline the first fx event on jan 21st

by JonBon Joey on Nov 17, 2011 7:21 PM EST reply actions

Is that official

That’s a pretty good battle of talented lightweights to headline. I’m not a big fan of the main event having two guys off loses, however, they are both very talented.

by Turaldo on Nov 17, 2011 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

Junkie is reporting it & they usually never prematurely speculate so id say yes…Altho the article starts out by saying its a 3 round main event. Idk if thats a typo or if fox decided they dont want 5 rounds or what

by JonBon Joey on Nov 17, 2011 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

I just hope that this is the only main card fight theyve announced. Barry morecraft doesnt deserve maincard status. Neer Ludwig is ok but not really main card either. Maybe the peralta Oliviera fight could open the main card up. Not that none the fights will be exciting, but on name value & trying to sell the show to my friends who only know of 10-20 fighters

by JonBon Joey on Nov 17, 2011 7:34 PM EST up reply actions

Hope it is a Typo

Man, I hope that it is a typo, I am a fan of five round main events.

True brother

Yea Leben vs Munoz wasn’t ppv, hope they keep it that way.

by Turaldo on Nov 17, 2011 8:39 PM EST up reply actions

keep all main event 5 rounders i meant

I meant that I hope that keep all main events 5 rounders

by Turaldo on Nov 17, 2011 8:41 PM EST reply actions

for now the plan is to keep all #1 contender matchups 5 rounds.

but they didn’t go that route with diaz/penn, and thankfully for BJ

Must be present to win.

by arm.bar.bandit on Nov 17, 2011 10:16 PM EST up reply actions

Don't know bandit

I don’t know bandit, your argument has been brought up before and they had said all main events would be five rounders. The reason Diaz vs Penn weren’t forced to go five rounds is because they had been moved to main event in two weeks notice, which is understandable because there was insufficient time to train. They also had already signed to fight a 3 rounder. Munoz vs Leben wasn’t a guaranteed title eliminator either and was scheduled for five rounds. To me it seems that they are only making five rounders whenever they feel like it, very confusing. In my opinion it should be all or nothing, and spread out the better fights more even.

by Turaldo on Nov 17, 2011 10:38 PM EST up reply actions

Finally back in the Chi

Hopefully we get a decent card with a good headliner. The last headliner was garbage. Hopefully it’s Silva again so we can see Chael finally dethrone this guy. I would buy the best seats I could if that’s the headliner. War Chael!

Chael Sonnen is in the building Bitchezzz!
