Before the big boys go at it tonight (Sat., Nov. 12, 2011) at UFC on FOX 1: "Velasquez vs. Dos Santos" in Anaheim, California, a pair of featherweight wranglers went to work on the Facebook streamed portion of the undercard.
Cub Swanson made his UFC debut after more than a year away from action, thanks to various injuries, against recent 145-pound addition, Ricardo Lamas.
Unfortunately for Swanson, his Octagon debut was spoiled thanks to a sweet technical performance from Lamas, who used an arm triangle choke to pick up the submission victory.
That's 2-0 in the UFC now at featherweight. Moving on up.
The fight opened with both men engaging, Swanson so obviously eager to to get back into the flow of things. He threw kicks often, keeping his foe at bay. Eventually, though, Lamas worked a leg and earned a takedown.
That nearly turned into a fight ending decision, as Swanson locked in a guillotine that may have looked a little tighter than it was. Ricardo fought through it either way, smiled and kept on coming.
The second frame began with the two banging it out with punches and kicks. That is until Lamas got it to the floor and worked his jiu-jitsu game.
One arm triangle choke later and it's wham, bam, thank you, ma'am.
