Youth is the engine of the world and in this case, not wasted on the young.
Two featherweight contenders in waiting will duke it out tonight (Sat., Nov. 12, 2011) on the Facebook streamed portion of the UFC on FOX 1 undercard, as promising up-and-comers Dustin Poirier and Pablo Garza go to war.
Poirier, 22, is 10-1 in his short career and has won both of his fights inside the Octagon, including a gigantic victory over former number one contender in waiting Josh Grispi.
"The Diamond" is still a bit untested but he's coming up through the ranks the right way, slowly building a resume worthy of consideration at the top of the rankings.
But so is the man he's squaring off against.
How's this for resume building: two UFC fights, one "Knockout of the Night" and one "Submission of the Night," both finishes coming inside the very first round.
That's the feat Pablo Garza,27, managed to pull off in consecutive bouts at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 12 Finale and UFC 129, respectively. It doesn't matter if you've had three or 33 professional fights, that's an impressive feat worth touting.
And now it's time to take a step up, albeit a small one.
That's what makes this bout so intriguing. Both fighters represent the natural progression in each others career. This is the part where fans would usually praise Joe Silva for his unparalleled matchmaking abilities but anyone with two eyes could clearly see these two were made for each other.
What better place than here? What better time than now?
