Looks like the land of the raising sun has received its main event fighter. Lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, has been scheduled to fight on the February 26th, 2012 card in Japan. Edgar was last seen finishing off Gray Maynard to finish a thrilling trilogy to defend the lightweight belt. Sources close to the camp have confirmed Edgar will be fighting at the Saitama Super Arena. His opponent has not yet been determined.
The assumption would be the winner of the UFC on Fox 1 fight between Clay Guida and Ben Henderson. Since Edgar is scheduled to fight in February, it looks like former Strikeforce Lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez will not fight for the title yet as he faces off against Jorge Masvidal at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal, which takes place Decemeber 17th, 2011. It is very good to hear that Edgar will be gracing the octagon against Henderson or Guida. With Edgar headlining this card, it looks like Sonnen/Silva II will be in March.
Anyone excited to see Edgar headlining the long awaited return to Japan?
