Tyson Griffin had been hailed as a potential title contender after dropping down to featherweight and defeating former title challenger Manny Gamburyan.
But all that hype was quickly shattered by a motivated WEC and IFL veteran Bart Palaszewski, who was also dropping down to featherweight for the first time in years.
"Bartimus" found a home for his jab early while Griffin was content to stand and trade punches.
That turned out to be a very bad idea for the Xtreme Couture fighter.
Nearly halfway through the first round, Palaszewski connected with a combination as Griffin was on the way in and he stunned the compact wrestler.
With Griffin hurt, Palaszewski swarmed him, throwing heaps of punches that overwhelmed the five-time "Fight of the Night" winner, eventually crumpling him along the fence with a huge right hand and earning a knockout victory.
This loss was devastating to Griffin's divisional hopes, as was the fact that he failed to make weight at yesterday's weigh-ins, coming in 3 pounds over the 146 pound limit.
Palaszewski should be ecstatic with his first UFC victory, although he admitted in his post-fight speech with Joe Rogan that he might have broken both of his hands in the process.
So what did you think, Maniacs? Was this a great way to get the SpikeTV fights started after four consecutive decisions on the Facebook prelims? What do you do with Tyson Griffin now?
Sound off!
