UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre has suffered a knee injury and will not fight Carlos Condit at UFC 137 on Oct. 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That's according to UFC President Dana White, who today tweeted the horrific news:
I just land in NYC and what do I always say!? I have to deal with bad shit everyday!! GSP is out with an injury!!! It's GSP'S knee. We will sit Carlos to wait for GSP. It's looking so far like he could be ready in a couple months. Still early to tell tho
Condit will not lose his opportunity to fight St. Pierre for the title and will instead be riding the pine, for however long, as the Canadian is in no "Rush" to commit to a return date.
In their absence, the welterweight scrap between Nick Diaz and B.J. Penn is now the new headliner, which is ironic, considering how everything transpired and yet Diaz is once again main-eventing the UFC 137 pay-per-view.
This is certainly a crippling blow to what was widely considered one of the most anticipated events of the year.

I really cannot believe this shit. It’s getting out of control with the “injuries” and match up changes. One has to wonder how much of it is real, and how much of it is to make changes behind the scenes and sell it to the MMA community as real.

Honestly, I felt something with GSP was going to happen. GSP is very particular. He doesn’t have Jackson doing his game planning for this fight because he’s fighting a team mate. You never know, and with a guy like Georges, I wouldn’t put it past him.

Interim simply means gap or in absense. Interims also help determine a proper #1 contender diaz/condit were the two offered a fight at gsp and both feel they still deserve it so raise the stakes and increase the importance of gsp’s return! Plus koscheck offered to step up let him fight penn common opponents gsp hughes sanchez! My point is try to compensate for those fans who feel disappointed

BJ took down Fitch numerous times, took down Frankie in the rematch and has excellent TDD
He’s a far better wrestler than Nick, but he’s not as good a boxer as he’s been billed up to be in my opinion. He’s got a good jab but his footwork isn’t that great, he’s not a power puncher and he has struggled against busier, quicker fighters on the feet because he’s unable to counter their strikes effectively.

The hype for Penn vs Diaz is ratcheting up, the hype for the fight has long since surpassed GSP vs Condit….
Will that translate to PPV buys? We won’t know for 2 more weeks.

Title fights appear to casual fans. GSP is one of the biggest names in the sport. Penn-Diaz might be an amazing fight, but how many of the casual fans think that it’s such a good fight that it can make up for a GSP Title fight and justify shelling out PPV money?

Eh, those Canadians come by the truck loads. The buy rates drop off should probably be pretty large. But I personally don’t care. GSP is the most boring champ. If your going to lose a champ off a card, it’s best to be GSP.

The biggest drawback to this sport is the injuries. but so close to a fight, they should be way more careful, we can only blame gsp for not learning from his past mistakes of getting hurt before a fight. he’s my boy, but this is disappointing as fuck
