Looks like "Mandingo" was handed his walking papers, as Antonio McKee (25-4-2) has been released by Zuffa following a split decision loss to Jacob Volkmann (12-2) in his Octagon debut at UFC 125 on Jan.1, according to FiveOuncesofPain.com.

Brutal but i love it.
No more space people, this is a cutthroat universe. Kill or be killed no second chances. If you want those, you can find them in the regional scene.
BIG NOG for Life
One Step closer to Gleison Tibau @ 145
If the round is too close, it's 10-10, NOT flip a coin 10-9 or late takedown FTW.

i dont agree
it was his first loss in the UFC and it was a split decision
The days as champ are done... but the juggernaut known as Brock Lesnar will return.
However he talked about beating GSP before he was signed then came and laid an easter egg vs a guy that should be getting cut as well

My only problem with this is that the fighters are playing it safe so much more
Fighters not wanting to take chances makes for less exciting fights.
Dominance of Georges St. Pierre Is in the Details

Wow
Talk about one and done. Good lord.
But really, dude wasn’t going to do anything in the UFC. He’s an old wrestler with nothing else, who fights passively. I thought he’d get one more fight, but guess that 55lb division has way too many heads in it right now to keep a 40-something year old boring non-contender wrestler around.
Wow
its not even like he got KO’d. he lost split decision. cmon dana. but he also lost to volkmann which says somethin
HAHAHAHAHA
This fool talked so much shit and was already talking about getting another fight in the UFC where he planned to talk more shit. Hurry up and hand Vera his papers too, Dana!
look at the salaries page
dude makes way too much money by ufc standards to be losing split decisions to guys like volkmann.
my ape technique, put people down.
I agree with this
If you’re a boring fighter, you should at least be winning lol. If you’re boring AND you lose, you’re done.
Didn't Dana just get through saying he hates fighters who talk shit and don't deliver?
I’m not saying that’s exactly what Antonio McKee did…. but I am.
Wish I could have seen this fight....
Sounds like McKee didn’t seize his opportunity to make a good 1st impression in the cage. Yeah and interesting the timing of this with Dana recently saying that guys who talk and don’t deliver will find themselves out of a job.
I hadn’t seen much of him but did pull up one video where he got a guy down against the ropes and nailed him with a vicious elbow and split the dude wide open….fight was stopped shortly after. From that video, it seemed he was a fighter but I guess that wasn’t typical of most of his fights which were more the boring wrestling matches from what I’m hearing from you guys…
That fight came at the end of a streak of 20 fights of his in which only two didn’t go to decision. One was him being armbarred, the other was because his opponent blew out his knee. His last real finish had been in 2001. So yeah, you could say that one brutal finish wasn’t overly representative of his pre-UFC career.

I watched most of the fight between..
Volkman vs McKee online, it was boring but it wasnt all boring because of McKee, Volkman fought a boring fight as well… the 3rd rnd neither one went after it… hence dana was pissed and decided to cut the loser to make an example of 2 undercard fighters not going after it in the 3rd rnd
Great, now with the merger
You cant talk shit and do not back it up + his grinding fight style + cannot get past a absolute gatekeeper in Jacob = walking papers.
I have no problem with this, its shows that you have to perform in LW division.
Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

I wonder...
since the White House thought it so pertinent to follow up on visiting Volkmann over his comments in an internet interview, if they will bother to send anyone out to help Antonio Mckee get a job or at least explain to him how to apply for unemployment benefits. Isn’t he an unemployed father now at 40+ years of age?
I’m sure he could use somebody to walk him through how to apply for benefits, he probably qualifies for some he doesn’t know about yet. Sorry don’t mean to crinkle the bag or anything I still can’t get over that having actually happened.
Mckee getting cut isn’t a surprise it was just a little sooner then I expected. I thought he’d go 1-2 against some of the younger WEC 55’er’s as a litmus test sort of since he has been around the block and was too old and not multi-faceted enough to threaten upper tier LW’s.
I don’t know where he goes from here, I wish him well but I’m not going to admonish the UFC brass for making the cut. They have to set consistent performance based criteria for fighters on the undercards who occupy the rotating slots in the divisional roster, because as so many others have said, he didn’t look good enough to hold that slot over another prospect willing to live up to all around expectations by fans and the UFC.
I won’t count him out but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was his one shot at the “big times” in his career.

And Dana pulls out his axe again.
Maybe he should be called the Axe Murderer not Wanderlei.

facts are..
you cant talk that big of a game an lose your first time out.. yeah it was a split decision, but he made it sound like he’d murder people and said he was the best LW in the world… dana made a point, he loves making a point.
gerald harris now.. shouldnt have been cut in my opinion.
So if you talk smack,
which helps promote the fight, Dana cuts you for it. Seems strange to me.

Wrong. If you talk smack and nobody cares because you are on the undercard, you underperform vs an opponent you should beat easily…. then your cut

it's simple really...
dude’s like 60 years old. why keep an old timer who is all bark no bite, when he has a plethora of early 20’s fighters from TUF and WEC who have genuine charisma and skills that evolve every day.
