Brock seems he lost interest in fighting.......

He got paid millions to fake fight- then he made a fraction of that to fight for real.
So fake fight for MILLIONS?
Or real fight for HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS?
you do the math I can see why he lost interest in fighting
It was all good and fun when you win or have a little knee lock,
but getting pummeled by Shane and Cain sucks I bet!!!!

Cain won’t be knocking anybody out. Brock just reacts badly. Cain couldn’t put Kongo away.

Cain KO'd Nog in the 1st round.

Nobody else has been able to do that. Mir put him away but that was Nog at 25% and Fedor couldn’t do that with 3 tries. Sports science said cain hit harder than Ivan Drago from Rocky 4 was was consider uneralistic back in those days. Sounds pretty crazy if he’s punching that hard but SheepleBuster, learn what you’re talking about next time ok slick? Got everybody in here correcting you making you look all stupid and shit. lol

Coker feels the rankings are unjustified because Werdum beat Fedor so he thinks he should be #1. What he doesn't realize is that Fedor was only considered #1 for the fact that there was no clear cut stand out in the UFC's HW division at that time and with Fedor ducking top competition the rankings still must be set. Someone had to be placed in that #1 spot so because of this and of his longevity he stayed there from his Pride days. The guy had not proved he was still the #1 HW since those days when he's not facing top 5 guys unlike other #1 ranked fighters in their divisions who clean them out.

You see

Puck is so in love with Brock that he needs all of his opponents to seem legit. The universe knows that NOG was deminished due to staph. Puck just cant accept that Brock was a sham who only beat hand picked opponents, guys out of prime, and cans.

Since 7/08: Fedor has fought 4, agreed to fight 5 times, Brock has fought 5, Cain has fought 6, Big Nog only 3, Mir has fought 5, Carwin has fought 4, Werdum has fought 4, JDS has fought in 6, Silva has fought in 6, and oddly, Overeem has been the HW workhorse fighting 7 MMA fights in that span (plus several k1). As a Nog fan and a Mir hater I hope that staph was the reason for Nog's awful display

Problem is he looked just as old and slow against Cain, Sylvia and Herring as he did against Mir. Sad to see one of my MMA idols losing/scraping wins against guys he’d have destroyed in his prime.

Yet

He looked just fine against Randy. And by your guys accounts Randy is still going strong, right. Or wait…did Brock fight somone out of prime….Hhhhh?

Sorry guys, the staph didn;t effect his chin but it effected his ability to block. He looked even slower against Mir…everyone knows this. Thats why a rematch was scheduled. Get it? But keep pretending that Nog was slow, then got fast, then slow again. Mir was due to staph.

What happen in Pride is history. You think AA, Rogers Syvlia are better than Couture Mir and Carwin were I believe the opposite either way they are all good fighters and I think it’s ignorant you call any of them cans. I also think Cain is better than Werdum so I must say overall Brock in my OPINION has faced better current competition overall. What fighter has faced better? You may have a few fighters 2-3 at most that have faced as good as competition as Brock has and regardless his opponents are far from cans.

Throwing 1 hard punch is pretty cool but that does not mean he throws those in fights.

It is like guys in the NFL who run a sub 4.3 40 but do not burn everyone in the NFL, they have speed but it is not functional to the NFL speed. Like Bruce said about breaking boards, “Break board is easy, board no hit back” same goes for a heavy bag that measures how hard you hit.

by Edgecrusher71 on Jan 5, 2011 8:29 AM EST up reply actions

I think he just meant that its easier to put all your power behind a punch when throwing it at a stationary bag that has no possibilty of throwing back.

sometimes, in fights, guys dont sit down on their punches as much as they do when hitting the bag because they wanna be able to move out of the way of counters quickly, dont wanna stand in the pocket and trade, etc.

So...
I think he just meant that its easier to put all your power behind a punch when throwing it at a stationary bag that has no possibilty of throwing back.

Yes, but that doesnt explain why nobody else on planet earth has been able to record a punch of that caliber. I mean was Cain the only one that got a clean shot at the measuring bag? Did the pro boxers have another boxer stand beside the bad throwing haymakers while the test was happening? No.

All things being equal, Cain throws harder than anyone in the known universe.

Well harder than anyone who did that test

But the point still stands, Cain does have punching power and it’s laughable how people still use the Kongo fight to discredit him, especially when that is the only fight that Cain has gone the distance.

by David W-S on Jan 5, 2011 10:49 AM EST up reply actions

Well yes sort of

To throw a punch that hard you need a static stance that is only conducive to throwing a power punch and in MMA guys need to be on there toes to react to punches, kicks and takedowns. Same thing goes for a guy in the NFL with elite speed at the combine, does it transfer over to the game? Cant hey run routes, make a guy miss or even still have the speed with pads and cleats on.

Cain is a tough guy and can clearly throw a hard punch but it has not been shown to carry over and be what I would call “functional power” because that is what they call speed in the NFL “functional speed.”

I played college football D2 with a guy that at his Pro Day ran a 4.34 which was the 3rd fastest time period that year for rookies going into the NFL

He was a track star as well. Did he burn some guys yes, but with that speed in D2 he should have been destroying everybody, was he fast yes, was he 4.34 fast out on the field, no. Michael Bennet ran a 4.28 back in the day and was not a crazy good running back. He could run one direction in a perfect scenario very fast but did not put it to great use, I would say the same about Cain’s power.

by Edgecrusher71 on Jan 5, 2011 11:54 AM EST up reply actions

Never gets run down when he runs in a straight line

Still with that speed for a RUNNINGback he isn’t that good because it isn’t that functional when he uses it in football when you have to cut, be patient etc… same goes in MMA, Cain could KO a guy with one punch but when considering the sport as a whole he fights well balanced instead of just head hunting and throwing big bombs. I would say that is more effective but at the same time he has NOT shown big KO power. TKO is different than KO.

by Edgecrusher71 on Jan 5, 2011 11:56 AM EST up reply actions

Cain has finished all but one fight including stoppages over Brock, Nog and Rothwell

It doesn’t matter if he has one punch KO power or not, he clearly hits hard and accurately which is why he’s the HW champion. Just because he doesn’t highlight reel KO every opponent doesn’t mean that he lacks power. And taking his time with his punches, waiting for the right point to strike seems to work a lot better than throwing wild hooks looking for the KO before gassing, that’s why he’s the champion and Carwin isn’t.

Brock could make money off of professional wrestling when he no longer able to compete but right now Brock still has a lot to offer and if he remains dedicated and becomes more open-minded about where he trains, he could solidifiy himself as one of the greats.

I think he is saying that Brock is looking for a future exit strategy while making money. That would include Brock making money while being able to compete and then using professional wrestling later on down the road.

i believe that wwe guys in the long run end up more beaten up then the mma guys.

300+ shows a year of hits to the head with chairs and getting tossed through tables takes its toll. ask mankind or jake the snake, they are broken. just because its scripted doesnt mean it doesnt hurt

Those guys take a beating every week and it destroys their bodies. I think in the long run MMA fighters take less damage.

That reminded me of a story I was told about my grandfather from CB.

He was always intimidating his daughters BF and his buddies. Some day when he was drinking and they thought they could set him strait if they jumped him while he was drunk.

One guy [my future uncle] knocked on the door and asked him to come out side and talk while his buddies waited at the side of the house. He had a beer in his hand. They jumped him and in the process he dropped his beer.

He beat the 4 of them on his porch and then picked up the one that had an afro and used his fro to mop up the beer on the porch.

LOL

then tossed him off the porch and went back inside.

For a non-fighter he did awfully well breaking PPV buyrate records, winning and defending the UFC HW title

If Brock’s not a fighter then what does that make Mir, Couture, Herring and Carwin?

"There's a few very good judges surrounded by a bunch of incompetent morons, who know nothing about the sport. They need to do something about that, because it's ruining MMA. It's making people think that this sport is corrupt. It has nothing to do with corruption. It's sheer and total incompetence."

Mir: Can
Couture:Old, slow, out of prime
Herring: Biggest can of all time
Carwin: prospect thatc ant fight two whole rounds…good luck winning in the UFC with that

Theres the top ten. I love how people say that Fedor never fights...he is right on average with the rest to the top 10 in the HW division. Fanboy perception is wrong again...shocking.

by StrikerDave on Jan 5, 2011 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

We can do that with any HW just to show you how ignorant you sound

 AA – glass jaw & a can
Syvlia – a fat can
Rogers – A tire man
Werdum – NOG junior by strikers opinion a can
I would take Carwin over all these bums

Just shows how awful the HW division is because all of those guys were either champions or top contenders at one point

Hopefully Cain-JDS and the SF GP can bring some credibility to MMA’s weakest mainstream weight class.

by David W-S on Jan 5, 2011 2:22 PM EST up reply actions

Honestly David I think they are all good fighters

The HW division will most likely always be the weakest division infact the number great fighters now is tremendous compared to even the PRide days

In Pride you had Fedor, barnett, CC and Nog then the talent dropped and was pretty thin but you had decent fighters for their time like Randleman,AA, Syvlia and Coleman that are kind of like what Kongo and AA are now.

And now you have Cain, JDS, Fedor, Brock, Carwin, Werdum, Overeem then a little drop to Mir, Bigfoot, Barnett(he may still be elite?) Big Country then a drop to kongo, rogers, AA etc…

Overall the HW division is as deep as it ever has been and it kind of sucks they are divided but we have to enjoy what we can there are a few up and coming fighters to watch for but for the next year or two I think the guys I mentioned will still be debated as the best but many on that list are 33 years+ old and we need to start seeing some young HW move there way up. I still think Duffee has potential after his bad showing and Struve in another 5 years could be scary.

Plus he’s an interesting guy and Heyman’s writing it for him so it’ll be entertaining. Besides if reality show rejects or footballers wives can “write” a book then why can’t Brock?

Bye Bye Tom Cable

Does Al Davis try to fuck up the Raiders?

The first glimmer of hope they had in years and they let the guy go?

Since 7/08: Fedor has fought 4, agreed to fight 5 times, Brock has fought 5, Cain has fought 6, Big Nog only 3, Mir has fought 5, Carwin has fought 4, Werdum has fought 4, JDS has fought in 6, Silva has fought in 6, and oddly, Overeem has been the HW workhorse fighting 7 MMA fights in that span (plus several k1). Theres the top ten. I love how people say that Fedor never fights...he is right on average with the rest to the top 10 in the HW division. Fanboy perception is wrong again...shocking.

Don't get me started on that shit Striker :) Al should sit back and enjoy the game

Unless Gruden is coming back I’m not a happy fan right now

They are going to promote their OC

To keep the 49ers from hiring him.

Niners will end up with Harbaugh or Gruden

I remember when you picked Brock to beat Cain ;)

"There's a few very good judges surrounded by a bunch of incompetent morons, who know nothing about the sport. They need to do something about that, because it's ruining MMA. It's making people think that this sport is corrupt. It has nothing to do with corruption. It's sheer and total incompetence."

Joe Rogan speaking the truth. Sort the judging out now.

I remember as well

I also picked Penn to beat Edgar, Wandy to beat Franklin, Chuck & Page…I got a few wrong in the past and I imagine I’ll call a few wrong in the future as well. My early predicition for the SF HW tourney is Barentt to take it all but I want to see him fight at least once before I place any kind of wager on it?

Barnett's a decent shout if he can get licensed and isn't too rusty

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fedor and Overreem lost their first round fights, Werdum’s already beaten Alistair once and Silva is a good all rounder with a lot of motivation to beat Fedor and prove himself as an elite fighter. As long as he doesn’t stay on his feet too long he could pose some problems on the ground, his BJJ is too good for him to get submitted and he has a good top game.

I can't see Fedor losing to Bigfoot but you never know

I’m intrigued by Overeem vs Werdum. If you see there last fight reem was only 25 and much smaller than he is now.

Book has nothing to do with him quitting, guessing it's more about WWE

For to people assume that he is planning to sum up his career and quit MMA is funny… Even if was involved with the project while hunting (which I doubt)! Putting out a book takes more than a couple of months work (UFC 121 to now). As a matter of fact the book was suppose to be released around UFC 116 but they didn’t for some reason.

The book is more like Paul Heyman’s project, he decided to write a book involving Brock and them being good friends it is being promoted directly by Brock! I’m guessing it’ll have good insights on the man’s career, but a bunch of it might be WWE related.
