Out to be a interesting match because Shirai is going to want to immediately get this fight to the ground.
Also Ricco vs McSweeney could end up being fun too

Didn't know Ricco was fighting McSweeney
That would be good to watch

If it hits the mat McSweeney will be submitted fast. If it stays standing I believe McSweeney can pull the upset

It's just been put up on the front page
Is it gonna be lhw or hw? I saw (wiki) that that Ricco’s last fight was a catch weight at 215 and I know McSweeney has gone down to 205
I got Ricco in this. Agreed with you about if it goes to the floor it’s over for James but I’m still taking Ricco in the stand up

no shit eh?? Cant believe everyone is Sleeping on Shirai, he can be a handful for anyone, and the majority of his losses are by way of Dec. Can totally see him getting Daley down an tapping him out or GnPing him. Time will tell I guess. Wonder if Shirai does win if SF will give him a couple fights?
How do you Know where Im at? If you dont Know where Ive been...Understand where Im coming from??
If he had the belt, and lost, he would still have the belt
The only way I could conceive of this having any kind of impact would be if he were completely humiliated SF may not give him to Diaz straight away, or if he pulled the kind of stuff he did against Kos. Otherwise, not really at all.

Actually man SF said if he loses he loses his shot. If he wins he gets Diaz/Cyborg winner

Ah
I see, so he is taking a risk…..although I don’t know much about his opponent.

Oddly enough, he is a submission grappler

It makes me respect him more, that he is taking the risk.
With that being said, I hope he get submitted.
Fedor.
I really don't understand the decision making process over there at SF

Me neither. They should have saved him to fight Woodley if they wanted to test his weaknesses.

If he loses then he loses his spot as top contender
They dont want someone coming off a loss in another promotion challenging for a title, that only happens if you lose in SF.

pretty bad
we tend to focus alot more on striking than wrestling etc. But thats just where im from, maybe its different down the country.
"The next best thing to being clever is being able to quote someone who is." -Mary Pettibone Poole
Non-existent
Amateur wrestling is not a sport we learn in school so that puts us at a disadvantage right away. We do have independent schools available and the MMA training centres do bring in top wrestlers from all over the world to teach the MMAsts but we still don’t produce international standard wrestlers and the sport doesn’t get anywhere near the funding or coverage of our national sports like football, rugby, cricket and tennis or even other combat sports like boxing, kickboxing and judo.
Like jam said, the British focus on combat sports is on striking rather than grappling which is why we are able to produce world class boxers, kickboxers and thaiboxers (and even these guys mainly train abroad) but no top grapplers. Amateur wrestling has never been popular in this country, the only wrestling that gets any coverage on TV or even in the tabloids is pro wrestling. Even when an olympic prospect was interviewed on the radio to talk about his wrestling career he was asked about WWE.
Hopefully we’ll see more money put into amateur wrestling as a result of hosting the 2012 olympics but it’ll be a long time before we see top wrestlers coming out of the UK who can compete with the Americans nevermind the Eastern Europeans and Iranians who currently dominate the sport. Until we start taking wrestling seriously, we’re not going to be producing any world class MMAsts anytime soon unless they learn their skills abroad.
