I guess Cole Miller will have to root for Donald Cerrone to lose against Paul Kelly at UFC 126.
That's because he was soundly controlled and beaten by Matt Wiman at UFC Fight Night 23: "Fight for the Troops 2" tonight, losing via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) in Fort Hood, Texas.
It wasn't pretty (or "handsome" for that matter), but Wiman got the job done. He scored a takedown and used top control to steal the first, which would lead to him opening up the action more in the second.
In fact, a big knee earned him a knockdown, and from that point forward, he poured on the punishment until the final buzzer blared to end the lightweight contest.
Using all sorts of unique strikes, including the rarely seen but crowd-pleasing double hammerfists, Wiman totally dominated his opponent in the second round.
A couple submission attempts in the final frame sealed the deal for the streaking lightweight, who has now won three consecutive fights in the crowded 155-pound division.
Is he on his way to making a run to the top of the lightweight ladder?
It's anyone's guess, but the year is young, and Wiman is off to a fantastic start.
