While Thiago Silva was open-handed slapping Brandon Vera last night (Jan. 1) at UFC 125, light-heavyweight prospect Jon Jones tweeted the following: "Wow that slapping was so disrespectful.. id love to give him a slap in the face."

Anybody else salivating at the idea of a "Bones" vs Silva rivalry?

I dont know man

Silva’s only losses were Machida and Rashad right? Nothing to frown upon. And let’s not count out Bader just yet

I'm really not buying the Jones hype

I think he’d lose against Thiago, and probably will against Bader.

explain what?

how Thiago would fuck his face up? Probably the same way you’d explain to me how Jones would do the opposite, these are opinions brother, take a chill pill and let’s hope they’ll book this after Bader is done with Jones :p

Once Jones starts running through top 10 ranked fighters I might jump onboard, ’till then… not so much…

i actually agree

Jones is a badass for sure. But he still hasnt proven himself against an elite fighter. Bader will be his biggest test so far

Jones shouldn't waste time with Silva at this point...

cause if he beats Bader than he should get Rampage and the winner of that gets the winner of Rashad/Shogun.

Coker feels the rankings are unjustified because Werdum beat Fedor so he thinks he should be #1. What he doesn't realize is that Fedor was only considered #1 for the fact that there was no clear cut stand out in the UFC's HW division at that time and with Fedor ducking top competition the rankings still must be set. Someone had to be placed in that #1 spot so because of this and of his longevity he stayed there from his Pride days. The guy had not proved he was still the #1 HW since those days when he's not facing top 5 guys unlike other #1 ranked fighters in their divisions who clean them out.

by Oswald on Jan 2, 2011 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

there's no hype involved.

Jones has won all of his fights and one highly controversial dq loss from worst ref mazzagatti’s decision. hype would be if he beat a big name in his first fights without working his way through, think Lesnar, Jardine, BJ.

"never as bad as they appear during their lowest points, never as good as they seem during their highest ones. the very best then must be not just talented but resilient, not just hungry but focused. their sport demands it."

by THORAZINE on Jan 2, 2011 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

I buy it too, but....

I would like to see him against an elite striker. Not that there really are a lot of those in the 205, maybe Machida and of course Rua.

no im chilled i just wanna know ur reasoning

like i said bader is a Kos with a worse shot.He beat glass jaw sardine and beat a over the hill lil nog.Hes a strong wrestler with big power but limited.Look at jones dec Bonnar but who stops Bonnar and absolutely annihilated vera, matyushenko and hamil.I agree they might not be elite but its the manner that he put them away

Bonnar isn’t really fighting big names as of late to make that argument IMO though, his biggest name is Forrest years ago… if he was fighting the same people lil’ nog has been fighting, perhaps he’d have been finished. (though Machida did finish him too, many years ago).

hahaha

dude, what’s your planet like? If you’ve been living here on Earth you’d realize what you said. You said once Jones starts running through top 10 ranked fighters you might jump onboard? But wait…. Thiago Silva HAS?? Just think about how dumb that comment was. Thiago’s best win was Brandon Vera, who Jones absolutely steamrolled in one round in much more dominating fashion than Silva. As for Bader…. ONE quality win in his entire career and it was against Lil Nog, who has no wrestling and is just a taylor made matchup for Bader. Stop acting like Jones hasn’t proven himself like the others…. your ignorance really showed. Jones via destruction over both of those guys…. because, well, he has looked 10 times more dominant in his fights than the other guys put together.

by CBASS7 on Jan 2, 2011 7:25 PM EST up reply actions

and where did I say I was on some sort of a Thiago Silva train hype? you seem confused. learn some reading comprehension, then talk… saying I don’t buy Jones’ hype doesn’t mean I think Thiago Silva is a top fighter in the UFC (though I’m sure he’d kick Jones’ ass).

i didnt like seeing that at all

sportmanship is a big thing for me. But T Silva’s whole “badass” persona he plays isnt doing it for me the cutthroat thing and pointing at jardine when he knocks him out those things were very disrespectful even the cheering he did against Irvin pissed me of . The sole purpose of the slaps were to humiliate Vera and not even to hurt him. I would like seeing Bones put Silva in his place it would be even better if Phil Davis will take revenge for the slaps.

Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

Randy was spanking a guy who talked MAD trash about him and to him. Tito brought him a cane as a gift for after the fight and said he was too old. Orcus, I agree with you.

I don’t think he did it intentionally knowing they were illegal strikes, however, I do believe that it is something he should have known before going into the fight.

I’m a big Anderson Silva fan, but the illegal kick he threw to Okami (way back when), was also illegal. Silva was winning the fight hands down, but he still violated an important rule.

I don’t think either of those rules should be there. That doesn’t excuse the fact that they were ignored, and ignorance isn’t a good reason. “I’m sorry your honor, I had no idea shooting a man in the face with a loaded gun was illegal.” :)

First Bader...

…then Thiago Silva.

Jon Jones will show him some R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Get off Jones dickkkk! He has not beat anyone elite?????????????????

For Jon Jones to even be considered top of 205, Please lets see if this kid can even beat Bader??? Then will talk about if he has even a chance against Thiago?

It don't matter where you came from, its where your going!!!

by richmma4200 on Jan 2, 2011 6:18 PM EST reply actions

who has silva beat ?

Jardine and Vera are his biggest wins

Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

by robinhorobson on Jan 2, 2011 7:46 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I'm guessing he thinks Thiago losing to elite fighters

and beating the same sort of guys bones has, somehow makes him superior.Either that or its all the tatoos and the throat slash.

The Twitter era....

I agree…..this shit is getting out of hand. I do NOT want to know what you just ate for lunch, how big your last bowel movement was and I certainly don’t need a play by play of your emotions. Incredible how self-absorbed people have become.

let me recycle

bones jones is just being a little bitch. It’s disrespectful to slap your opponent, but it isn’t appealing a decision when you clearly did something illegal?

fuck that bitch, shut the fuck up bones

he wrote this an hour ago

’For all the Tiago silva fans who had a problem with my comment, I want you all to know that I stand behind what I said 100%. Dominating someone in a fight is 1 thing, looking to simply humiliate them is another.. ’

he needs to man up and stop making a big deal out of nothing

Jon Jones will drop THE SLAMHAMMER on Thiago Silva. i can not wait for that collision…

Coming from a guy who used an illegal move

And then acted like he was sorry in the octagon but filed a protest just days later.

Fucking chump.

I think thiago did use the slaps to make vera

Lose his cool. But even if he was being a dick so what? At the end of the day he is a fighter and intimidation is a mental advantage over his opponents. He actually reminds me of a young W.Silva. It’s not like he hit Vera after the bell or disrespected him after the win. I’d be frustrated to if I had a year long layoff and my opponent just wanted to hold on and “survive”

by hitemwiturgroin on Jan 2, 2011 7:05 PM EST via mobile reply actions

F#ck bones!

I wud love for thiago 2 smash jones. Finally jones calls out a decent opponent. I hope bader power bombs him on his dome.

that Bones Jones

Wasnt Vera the one rubbed Bones the wrong way and now he wants to take revenge what a nice kid

As far as this matchup goes, I say let thiago faces the loser of bones/bader….I’m not sure if thiago is ready for bones though tbh…

even if he lost both matches

thiago has at least faced top 10th opponents twice in his short career. Not only that, he was just this close of putting rashad out but his back problems where a bit much

by vhw_ on Jan 2, 2011 10:18 PM EST up reply actions

oh, i forgot my point

point being silva has fought more talent, he sure as hell can take on bones and probably win it. It would be a good match for sure and real eye opener on bones’ level

by vhw_ on Jan 2, 2011 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

It wouldnt even be a fight Bones would finish him in round 1

With the win over the legend Matt Hughes the gates are slowly being greased. Soon it will be time to open the Shit gates once again.

by BJPennfan on Jan 2, 2011 10:45 PM EST reply actions

Bitches?

Funny how people can talk so much shit here.

FACT: Bones dispatched his opponents in devastating fashion.

FACT: Thiago Silva is a disrespectful fighter.

At least Bones gets to business and finishes the fight. Silva was just toying with Vera. Fucking show off. If Silva wanted to show some honor, he should have finished that fight.

Stupid Signature Goes Here

by DubNub on Jan 2, 2011 10:51 PM EST reply actions

he just couldnt finish him

He was punching like two minutes when he has Vera’s back and couldnt force him to roll over or secure a choke. That’s where the stupid slapping began to disguise his own flaws

Edson Barboza and Charles Oliveira are gonna stir up the pot at 155!

by robinhorobson on Jan 3, 2011 5:17 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

yeah jones finishes fights

but against elite competition?at least silvas faced some top competitors (evans/machida) he may have lost. but at least he can be judged on how he fought against them. jones hasnt fought anyone yet, bader will be his biggest test, and bader hasnt beaten anyone worhtwhile either.

by decbolton on Jan 3, 2011 9:36 AM EST up reply actions

Vera acts like he eats a hand full of xanax before a fight. Where is the anger? Silva was trying to piss him off so he would actually try to fight.

she is not the most petite little thing

but i know what your saying. Ms. Vera would make a nice wifey. No doubt.
