Pitbull caught a Bone? Andrei Arlovski training with Jon Jones for Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament

Bones_pitbull_medium

Jon Jones and Andrei Arlovski hit the gym to train together for their upcoming fights. "The Pitbull" will take on Sergei Kharitonov in a Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament quarterfinal match on Feb. 12 in New Jersey while "Bones" will square off against Ryan Bader at UFC 126 on Feb. 5 in Las Vegas. If they weren't before, they're both certainly favorites now, right Maniacs?

That is crazy.

So Coker thinks that because they're making his HWs fight 3 times this year and making the best in SF fight the best means the winner of it all will be the top HW in the world? lol Welcome to the UFC where everybody who isn't injured fights the best 3 times a year. Fedor hadn't proven he was the best in years but kept the #1 spot for the longevity of his Pride days until the big 4 in the UFCs HW division fought each other so as it stands right now Cain is the top HW in the world no matter what the outcome of this tourney is. If JDS beats Cain then he's #1 cause he already destroyed Werdum who embarrassed Fedor. It's not like Fedor has beaten anybody ranked above JDS in years so the rankings are finally justified.

Holy shizam

looking at that picture I forgot they were in seperate weight classes until i read this post

by ToeLock on Jan 19, 2011 3:50 AM EST up reply actions

Didn't the ufc bill the pit bull at 6'3"?

He looks like he’s about 6’1", I have a pic of me an bones and I’m only just shorter than him an I’m 6’2". Why do they do this? They are like the wwe.

by vinrex7 on Jan 19, 2011 7:00 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah. Jones looks like he dwarfs Arlovski, maybe it is just the photograph.

Excuse my emotional, reactionary, fanatic output but Pettis will be the next UFC lightweight champion. Period.

I'm not sure if it could be the photograph.

They aren’t standing far enough apart to have it be a perspective issue.

Hardly like the wwe. They do it in nba,nfl and most other professional sports

Intimidation is the reason. Have you ever seen an nba player listed at 5’11"? Probably not that often

by Johnny Ballgame on Jan 19, 2011 8:26 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, my thoughts too!

Andrei looks in really good shape though. How much does Bones usually cut? It is not like Andrie is a BIG heavyweight.

smart move...

however not sure if u can cure a glass chin….even tho his chin looked better vs big foot (by him not getting knocked out after takeing some heavy shots to it ) …. i hope AA does well always been a fan ever since i first saw him make timmy tap out

I'm not sold on this glass chin thing

I think Andrei’s proven in the big foot and the 2nd tim sylvia fight that he can take some shots. the Fedor and Rogers KO’s would of happened to anyone if they got caught like that.

by Jye Pereira on Jan 19, 2011 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

i agree but its what people say so ill just go with the crowd on it

but like i said he proved that his chin can take punishment in the big foot fight … but if he gets hit flush it might be a different story … but its nice knowing he has the same ability to put anyone to sleep with his punching power always makes his fights exciting

you must be doing that with your sig too, im guessing?

negative azzzzzcombat

being ive watched everyone of his fights its a fact he has a glass chin and almost everyone and there mother would agree with it … and AA is almost right along with him … after someone gets KO’d so many times I consider them to have a glass chin…but thats just me … if u dont agree then oh well

if anyone gets hit flush by a hw it's a different story.

that’s why the best don’t, and therefore you never see them go down. Doesn’t mean they can’t just like Andrei and every other fighter. Rampage and anyone would get laid out cold if hit flush by HW’s.

I am who i is.

theres nothing jones can learn from the pitbul shnitzel

jones would finish arlovski in less than a rd without breaking a sweat

Actually I would say Jones gets the best of this easily. Andrei doesnt need as much work is Jones does. And where Jones needs the most work AA can provide some.

AA gets hit a few times but nothing with serious pop.

Even then though it completely broke him mentally. Sergei is a very good boxer and he’s more than durable as hell compared to AA. You AA fans will once again see why there is a consensus about the glass chin. I was surprised when that Werdum bitch slap didnt Ko him;)

AA has been stopped in his career by the hard hitting Rizzo in his prime. Ricco in his prime. And then Fedor when he was jumping in mid air at basically maximum momentum towards Fedor, Fedor cracks a heavy momentum filled overhand….. EVERY HW IN THE WORLD GETS KO’D

Then vs Rogers he is back peddling staright back and gets caught with Rogers power swing. Not too many HW’s would survive if any.

Antonio Silva has power. Has stopped opponents. Laid some good solid shots and AA took them. Sergei in my opinion has similar power but has more precise strikes. I wouldnt doubt that both land and still go to a decision

I'm starting to think the whole "glass jaw" is as much a vision/reaction thing...

…as anything.

Anyone caught cold gets KO’d – pretty much all fighters would go down from a big heavyweight shot they didn’t see coming. You see it often. Now these once great fighters start getting KO’d every fight – I don’t see (and nor does medical science from what I’ve heard) what causes a big KO to make you more likely to get KO’d again after recovery unless it’s a brain learning thing. If so then mental training or something like hypnosis may be able to do something to stop you becoming another Chuck.

I’m more of the opinion now that it’s most likely your reactions slowing that mean you get caught more flush more often, you’re not reacting in time for that slight slip to cause the blow to glance off. Not many young fighters suffer a big KO and don’t come back from it effectively if they’re good – indicating it’s those kind of one-off shots that just caught them. The old guys by comparison seem to start getting KO’d more regularly once they’ve had one or two.

Probably a load of crap but been discussing it with a friend who I got into kickboxing a couple of years back and now I’m in my mid 30’s I notice I can get my bell rung more easily as I’ve slowed a little – never KO’d and not fought competitively in years so it shouldn’t really be “wear and tear” – more likely I’m not seeing the shots coming in as well as before, or at least getting out of the way as quickly as I used to.

Good post. AA had horrible lateral movement vs Brett and made a horrible choice vs Fedor. Thats what I think of AA

yes

Pretty much clarifies what iv always thought. Andrei could make 205 and he would be a force there IMO!!

by the real mo on Jan 19, 2011 12:54 AM EST reply actions

i know

I know hes 6-4 n weighs around 240 but I honestly think he would be able to cut down the 35. Hes a small heavyweight and prob eats what he likes, plus doesnt cut any weight at all at present.

by the real mo on Jan 19, 2011 12:58 AM EST up reply actions

I doubt he can make 205

He always weighs in around 230-240 but that’s already looking ripped. I doubt he carries around that much body fat. It’d be way too big a cut to not effect his performance

by Jye Pereira on Jan 19, 2011 1:18 AM EST up reply actions

i know

but if he wanted to get down to 205 i think he could, the likes of forrest and jon jones walk around at similar weights and are ripped as well. He may have to lose a little muscle but im sure he could make it. Plus i think it would be good for his career. Of all the heavyweights he has a great chance of being a force at 205 due to his speed and strength, striking and wrestling plus hed be a big 205er instead of a small hw

by the real mo on Jan 19, 2011 1:49 AM EST up reply actions

he definitely doesn't eat what he likes.

i remember reading an interview where they asked him “whats the best pizza place in chicago” and he takes the question all seriously and says “i don’t eat pizza i’m always on a very strict diet”

by AzCombat on Jan 19, 2011 1:47 AM EST up reply actions

yeah

I meqnt in terms of portions, i remember seeing ufc uncovered and he was eating steak for breakfast I think?? He eats that sort of food all the time and as he stated he eats as much of it as he likes without having to worry. The same as randy at hw i guess.

AA is a very solid 6'4 and cut 230+

I’ve seen him working out in the gym or around town in Chicago on a few separate occasions. I’m 6’ 2 1/2 and he is clearly taller than me. He is also ripped. I don’t think that he could drop that much weight without giving up some serious muscle. I think the weight classes (as their configured) are just not setup for someone like him. The guys that are cut 235-240 pounders just have to deal with giving up some serious weight to the real heavy 260+ guys that have to cut weight. Obviously, this is not the be all and end all of a HW fight but it could definitely make a difference. What this picture tells me is that Jon Jones is a monster. He must be a good 6’ 6" with lightening speed in both his hands and his feet. That’s why he seems to present so many challenges for his opponents.

by mmaConnoisseur on Jan 19, 2011 7:02 AM EST up reply actions

Wrong

Jones is only just 6’3" but the ufc bill him as 6’4".

Arlovski...

Looked kind of Sluggish in his fight against big foot, BUT that’s only because he was coming off a pretty long layoff. He has been consistently training with Jackson’s for a while now and looks like he’s in great shape. I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people in this tournament.
