untrue Mr. Coker

i believe its a combination of both…i think most fans are GENERALLY happy with the tournament, but that those same fans also probably could think of one or two ways it could be modified so that it would be even better…on top of that i think theres a number of people, myself included, that are a little skeptical that this will even work out lol

On february 5th 2011 at UFC 126 Jon "Bones" Jones will show the world that their was no need for the MMA community to hype this man because this guy is a beast with many skills and i personally will feel Ryan "Darth" Bader's pain after this fight. SB Nation's public enemy #1.

Wolfman is so pathetic

He actually paid a hooker to take a pic with him and he sent he sent that pic to jay saying it was gf. How sad is that

thanks judo

but you dont have to back me up with this clown…i saw your comments on the actual post and they were much appreciated…but lets talk about the issue at hand my dude, whatr u thinkin about the SF tourney?

Good points. I am pretty psyched for the tourney!

I like that SF is doing something different from the UFC. Plus I like Coker’s laid back attitude. It’s refreshing to see someone who approaches the business in a calmer tone and isn’t set off if anyone disagrees. Not a direct shot at Dana, but there’s a very different approach between Coker and White.

I am someone who would like to see both orgs flourish.

I am going to call it now, and people will say I am crazy, but the winner of the tourney will be either Werdum or Arlovski. I know AA is a crazy pick, but I think he has the most to prove out of all these cats and will surprise many.

by judomania on Jan 15, 2011 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

wow...very ballsy call...i have AA losing to sergei haha

i for one think that this is gonna be where overeem establishes himself as #1 in the world…right now i have him at #2 (not that my personal opinion means anything) behind cain…but i think hes going to trash werdum, beat fedor, and then trash kharitonov or barnett in the finals…and im probably the biggest dana white fan youll ever meet so im not a fan of coker at all lol

I know it's a ballsy one indeed, and is likeliest to backfire, but I like AA.

And truth be told, he is one of the most well-rounded cats in the tourney with all the ability in the world. He’s also a former Sambo world champ. He just needs to get that mental edge back. I believe he will do that this tourney.

Well, here's a good angle to include in the story:

The contribution of Judo not only to MMA, but also to other martial arts, such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Mitsuyo Maeda, a famous judoka from Japan was one of the 3 founders of bjj.

Of course, Judo in it’s own right is a phenomenal martial art and sport.

Exactly why I am instantly negative about the tourny BECAUSE it is such a good idea in theory. But I have been saying since it has been announced.

It will not happen the way it is supposed to, just going off of Coker’s bad track record with getting his high profile guys to actually fucking fight more than once a year. Then, already we learn the winner is not the Champ so it has already started to diminish its promise as a sweet ass tourney!

by Edgecrusher71 on Jan 16, 2011 8:32 PM EST up reply actions

Did he take a scientific poll on that or is he just making up numbers like most people do?

Man Areil Hewani has got the best job. They could pay me half of his salary and would do just a good a job………He is the best MMA reporter out there hands down. Everybody else ask the fighters really stupid questions and are usually just ignorant about the whole sport. I am going to switch my major to communications….. trying to get paid with a cool job.

whats he supposed to look like anyway? chinese? samoan? i cant tell

by Lester The Pimp on Jan 15, 2011 2:11 PM EST reply actions

He lets his fighters call the shots its always has to be on their terms. You dont see that happening with Dana he dont play that shit

by Zac Carey on Jan 15, 2011 2:13 PM EST up reply actions

But isnt that better for: The fans, the fighters, and the sport?

Instead of just being better for lining Dan’s pockets.

What a dumbass you are.

Why does his ethnicity matter to you or anyone?

I don’t think that should factor into anyone’s assessment of his work.

That’s like someone saying, “Judo, you did a sick job on this TPS report, but because you’re Hungarian, it actually sucked”.

Showtime isnt free Coker, it costs 15 a month, so thats not free.

And that comment tells you SF is heading to PPV, so all you who bitch about UFC making you pay for mma well here comes SF, I’m sure you’ll all bitch about that as well? Oh wait no you wont, cause its SF doing it, so they are the little guy and your fine with paying them, instead of paying the evil Zuffa machine.

by Aldo27 on Jan 15, 2011 2:32 PM EST reply actions

I like Ariel alot but the only thing is, and I guess its not good cause eh wants to keep relationships with these guys good but I would like him to challenge these guys, give his opinion.

Say flat out come on Scott, Cyborg? Yeah it may end up being a slugfest but lets be honest, Cyborg isnt a top 20 WW right now, lets cut the shit, that fight is a joke plain and simple, might be good fight but he isnt anyone and isnt a top WW.

SF has a habit of making mismatches. Do you want to put together the most one sided fights to make exciting knockouts?

I’d rather top quality guys fighting.

by Aldo27 on Jan 15, 2011 2:40 PM EST reply actions

i agree

but you’re right Helwani does need to keep a relationship with these people, but he does challenge them more than most reporters.

Fighting solves everything.

by Two_Words on Jan 15, 2011 2:43 PM EST up reply actions

They're not mutually exclusive, Scott.

I’m really happy that SF is doing the tournament and getting their best fighters to finally fight. However, I do have an issue with the fact that the brackets are extremely lopsided since the title won’t be on the line in Overeem’s fights. I would have been totally happy with either not having the belt on the line and doing a seeded tournament, or having it on the line and keeping it organized as is. But I think they really dropped the ball with the way it’s set up.

its totally flawed

how can the champ be in a tourney for his own belt? what the fuck is Coker thinkin?

im glad there’s gonna be some big fights, but the set up is totally wrong. i also got a feeling these fights are not gonna come easily. there’s gonna be delays, renegotiations, switching brackets, etc.

Fighting solves everything.

by Two_Words on Jan 15, 2011 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

Given past history with SF, I too think issues will inevitably arise.

However in the interest of quality MMA, hopefully we’re both wrong in that prediction.
