MMA and the Mainstream: My double life as an MMA fan

What's cooking Maniacs?

It's nearly Friday and my creative juices are flowing.  I decided to discuss something that I have to deal with on a regular basis: living a double life as an MMA fan.

I work in a typical office setting, with suits, ties and collars. Most of my co-workers are regular, cool, intelligent people. Yet I dare not tell them that I regularly watch GSP dominate his opponents, or Demian Maia choke someone out.  To do this would be the next best thing to career suicide.

Truth is I've overheard 95% of my colleagues refer to MMA as one form or another of the typical cliche: human cock-fighting, two qu%*rs wrestling around on top of each other, or even a "sport full of ex-cons". To out myself as an MMA fan would be as unwelcome as Fedor at Dana White's house.

It bothers me that I have to overhear this crap, but I was mocked even when I shared that I boxed regularly or had taken up muay thai.  I am forced to live the shameful double-life of workplace schlub and MMA fan.  I have a feeling I'm not the only one.

Any other Maniacs out there in the same boat? Any successful stories of outing your secret MMA desires?

Let's hear it home skillets.
