Alistair Overeem signs exclusive long term deal with UFC, turned down title unification fight

via assets.sbnation.com

Incredible news came across the wire a short while ago that Strikeforce heavyweight champion and K-1 kickboxing champion Alistair Overeem has signed a deal with UFC and will make his debut on Dec. 30 against Brock Lesnar in Las Vegas.

Futher details are starting to trickle out on the nature of "The Reem's" deal and there are some rather significant concessions the Dutchman has made in order to sign on with the world's largest fight promotion.

The most notable of these is the fact that he is now exclusive to UFC, meaning he will no longer compete as a kickboxer, something he long said he would refuse to give up. This according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, who talked to both Overeem and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta.

His contract is also described as being "long term" and the issue UFC President Dana White was very open on with his camp, Team Golden Glory, is close to being worked out, which will apparently pave the way for a Zuffa return for those caught in the crossfire.

In an interesting twist, it's also been revealed that Overeem was initially offered a title unification bout against the winner of the Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos fight at UFC on FOX on Nov. 12, which he turned down. Why? Because he didn't want to wait that long.

How's all this sound to you, Maniacs? Surprised?
