UFC Quick Quote: Thiago Silva 'anxious' to stand and 'bang' with Brandon Vera
... just as soon as he gets that pesky back injury taken care of, he tells Tatame.com.
"Everything depends on the athlete. To get there really hungry for the win sometimes is not a good thing, but everyone is different. I’ll be ready, for sure, and let’s see what happens. I think it’s a good fight, the two of us like to bang and it seems it’ll be a great fight. I’m anxious for this fight, our games match. He won’t be like trying to grab me all the time, we’ll trade a lot of punches. There’s plenty time and I still have to fix my spine. I’m doing treatment for it. It’ll take a month so I can go back to the trainings, but now I just have to wait for me to fight again."
Thiago Silva has the opportunity to send Brandon Vera to his third straight defeat when they throw leather at the upcoming UFC 125 event planned for Jan. 1, 2011. The Brazilian smasher suffered just the second defeat of his career when he was outworked by Rashad Evans at UFC 108 earlier this year. Silva prefers to keep it upright and "The Truth" may be more than happy to oblige him. Which one of these light heavyweights gets back into the title hunt -- and which one goes home?

I'm think Vera pulls of the upset
Not sure how Thiago get’s within range without getting tagged over and over again with the reach advantage Vera will have in this fight.
I'm taking Thiago by UD.
Vera has lost the instinct.

Vera is so desperate to find someone who will stand
and exchange with him. He couldn’t even put jardine away. Thiago is gonna bash him good.

WHAT
If I remember correctly Jardine was laid out looking at the ceiling
Thiago knocked him out
Vera went to a decision with Jardine.
Not only does BJ Penn quit on his stool versus guys that are bigger than him...He gets tooled by guys that are SMALLER than him. BJ should just stick to jumping out of pools, not fighting. I shoulda listened to Ulf.
correct
Thought you meant silva couldnt finish jardine
I have Vera taking this too!
Thiago won’t be able to take Vera down (not that he would want to) and like N8dogg kinda said, the reach will be the deciding factor. I have never liked Thiago (he’s a dick) so I hope Vera lights him up!
Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL
Haha
Why do you think he’s a dick? I like him.

War Thiago!
Dude is a cold blooded killer! I hope he messes Vera up. Should be a good fight if Vera brings it tho

I never understood why so many think Silva is all that
I respect him as a fighter, but he has never impressed me. His best wins were against James Irvin, Keith Jardine and Houston Alexander. I just don’t get it. Unless Vera has completely fallen off the map, I don’t see how Thiago wins this one.

I don't see how either win this one
I haven’t been impressed by either lately

I'll tell u how Thiago wins this one..
Vera is simply a pussy when he’s challenge and hit… Vera pedals backwards and loses heart… that’s how he’s going to lose…. however having pointed out the obvious, I think Vera has the potential speed and skill to hit a few quick combinations that could lead to wobbly Thiago then a submission or TKO….Vera was exposed in the Tim Silvia fight and it’s been happening ever since.
I agree Deuce.

Cold blooded killer haha. But seriously..
He does have this “vicious” aspect, which in part is image but also for real. The guy hits hard. Aside from losing to lyoto, his other loss wasn’t that bad.
I’d give him the nod with %66 odds.
I only see vera winning by a decision.
Finish Him!
I was on the Vera hype-train when he first arrived. I love(d) his style. But at this point, I can’t have faith that he will bring it. He seems to fight with a certain timidity now. I see him losing this fight.

Vera''s fight or flight response is more 'flight'
when it comes to getting hit. Vera’s even heard it from other fighters before I remember a blog where he said it kind of upset him to hear that from other fighters. However, he’s still the same and hasn’t change much in that aspect.
Silva all the way
My money’s on Silva. He’s not afraid to bang and, if he’s healthy, he’s a hard guy to beat. I just feel like Vera’s gonna be too timid after his fight with Jones and it’s gonna show against Silva. Silva by… 2nd round TKO.
The Truth?
More like The Big Joke? I don’t kno if Vera has that same fire he had when he 1st showed up on the scene. That’s why I think Silvia wins this with the victory by submission due to strikes. He has more of a killer instiinct in my eyes then Vera does anymore

I think under normal circumstances Thiago by TKO or decision
but with the long layoff and his back STILL not being 100%, which it probably won’t be again with his choice of career, its long from being a lock.

It's possible that Santiago might have been injured as well, I lost because my best was insufficient, only mortifying thoughts remain now. I think I would've entered the ring even if I lost one of my legs, I'm a fighter who fights, not with technique, but with heart."

Nice fight. Thiago is going to school Vera in the stand up and send his ass packing to Strikeforce, finally.
Shogun will have the longest championship reign in the UFC
I doubt there will be any schooling happening by Thiago..
Conan : You are known as a striker. Is that correct? Tell me what that means.
Chuck : Well I like to punch people, or kick them.
Sig Bet anyone?
I’ll Take Vera.
Now if ya heart was as big as ya mouth you'd be real, but its not so I know if you get knocked you'll squeal.

For sure. I’ll take you up on it. I have faith in Silva. People aren’t impressed with him. I don’t get it. I always enjoy watching is fights.
Although, Vera has a good chance, for if he wins he’ll be able to shake this “overrated” tag I believe he earned a while ago. But Silva is as well-rounded as Vera is, if not more, and the only chance I think Vera has is that he can back his stand-up with a solid wrestling game of his own. Unless you’re Jon Jones, he’s hard to control.
This should potentially be a good stand-up war.

Totally agree
But I still have hope for Vera and for some reason, I’ve never warmed up to Thiago. Silva is a great fighter, but I feel like this is Vera’s one chance at some sort of redemption, and so I choose to take his side. should be and interesting fight!
