TUF 12 Finale: Kendall Grove vs Demian Maia set for Dec. 4 in Las Vegas

The live finale of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 12 continues to take shape with another interesting match-up as former Spike TV reality show contestant (and Season 3 winner) Kendall Grove will jump into deep water with grappling wizard Demian Maia at "The Pearl" from the Palms Casino Resort on Dec. 4 in Las Vegas.
"Da Spyder" tweeted his pending match-up earlier today.
After posting three straight wins to start his UFC career, Grove (12-7) fell victim to inconsistency over the past couple of years, going 4-4 over the span of eight fights.
The Hawaiian was planished by Mark Munoz at UFC 112: "Invincible" earlier this year, but was able to rebound with a much-needed win over Goran Reljic, a split decision at UFC 116: "Lesnar vs. Carwin" back on July 3.
Grove has never been short on talent, but by his own admission has battled with issues both inside and outside the cage. He'll need to be at 100-percent to overcome the crafty Maia, despite having a tremendous size and reach advantage.
Like Grove, the Brazilian was electric right out of the gate, stringing together consecutive victories following his Octagon debut -- until Nate Marquardt turned him inside out at UFC 102: "Couture vs Nogueira" back in 2009.
Maia would sandwich decision wins over Dan Miller and Mario Miranda around his memorable loss to Anderson Silva in Abu Dhabi last April.
Finishing Grove may be the catalyst to getting him back into title contention.
TUF 12 Finale will feature the top two finalists from this season going head-to-head for a "six-figure" contract and the right to be called "Ultimate Fighter." Stephan Bonnar and Igor Pokrajac are also expected to hook 'em up on the televised portion of the Dec. 4 fight card.

Maia is improving in all areas, I see him taking this.
I was however really surprised that he couldn’t sub that guy (no idea of his name) in his last fight.
Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL

Why is everyone immediately thinking SF is going to pick these UFC cast offs up? Bellator could use Kendall as a “Superfight” against Lombard, or as a key man in another MW tournament. Shark Fights has a ton of ex-UFC guys, Kendall could go there as well. Duffee could go Bellator and fight the HW season winner. PWC with Timmeh and whoever else was on it is an option. Just saying, theres more to SF

If he had no defense he would have been submitted. If he had no cardio he would have not been able to fight off Maia's sub attempts. The end of the fight you see Maia give him mad respect for his skills.

miranda definetly had crazy sub defence......
but he would basicly give maia the takedown and he got tired way 2 soon. I think kendalls sub defence really good also and If maia tries to stand up with kendall like he tried with miranda and miller then kendall WILL win

Looks like the UFC is just keeping Maia busy with middle tier talent while the Silva - Sonnen rematch/ Palhares - Marquardt fight(s) play out.

If Patrick Cote was able to close the distance against Grove then I’m sure Maia will be able to get Kendall in the clinch with no problems.
I’m surprised they made this fight happen because I really doubt any one will believe Kendall Grove will pull off a victory. His limbs are waiting to be grabbed, yanked, pulled and twisted. Hopefully Grove learned how to use his super-serious reach advantage and make the fight interesting.

Anderson Silva really ruined Maia didn’t he? The guy was a Title contender just a few months ago now hes a preliminary card worker that got lucky that someone got hurt so he got onto the main card.. and now hes main eventing the Ultimate fighter Finale..

If he KO’d Maia. He’s only got 2 TKO victories. I think Maia pulls out the sub…It’s much more likely.
Almeida couldn't sub Grove,
Maia has a good chance to do so. Even if Kendall evades submission, I don’t think he can keep it standing long enough to do enough damage to take a decision win. Either way, at least it will give his glass chin some rest.

and Kendall has never been known for TD. But, I do see where you’re coming from. If they wrestle in the clinch, Grove could get a vicious knee or short elbow in and take over the fight for sure.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight...It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Grove will use his reach and try keep it standing.
But if Maia gets hold of one of those giant sized limbs, it’s over.

groves got this by decision. his muay tai is way better then Maias boxing. and if it goes to the ground it will just be a stalemate since grove is no slouch on the ground.

groves should be fighting on the undercard, fair to say, groves is fighting maia because of his popularity, due almost exclusively to his appearance on the nationally televised show TUF?
this is like a joke, where is the linear approach to match making, i suspect i’m right on this one: joe silva isn’t the matchmaker, he’s a suggester of matches and management sign off.
