Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

Heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee released from his UFC contract

Duffee-strike_medium

That's according to his manager Alex Davis:

"Well, I'm not sure exactly what the problem or problems were. I tryed [sic] hard to avoid, but Dana wasn't listening. It unfortunate, but Todd's an asset and he will keep fighting. He's a young kid that gets a lot attention."

SI.com's Josh Gross passes along the quote from Davis about the apparent difficulty in dealing with the talented but ornery Duffee, who set the division ablaze with his record-setting knockout over Tim Hague, only to go belly up after a KO loss to Mike Russow just a couple of months later. Any chance he shows up in Strikeforce? And what kind of impact can he make if he does?

Probably right

He seemed to spout off at the mouth a little too much. Guess Dana’s not going to be letting him eat any more.

why do they even have contracts.

it’s impossible to deal with Dana and at the end of the day things like this is only gonna hurt the fans. “Todd Duffee’s an ass” sounds just like Dana who of course has to interfere with the fighters personalities.

So, we have very little information, but a quote from Duffee’s own agent, whose job is to look out for Duffee’s best interest, implies that it was because Todd’s attitude and even calls him an ass. Clearly we can glean from this that Dana is being unreasonable.

Duffy for e-crying via Twitter, or Dana for firing a guy who rubbed him the wrong way?

well, kicking athletes out of their sport for personal reasons is insane. They should have to compensate him with a million or so at least.

Why? He signed a contract that obviously didn’t state that and how can you feel bad for a grown ass man? These fighters know the UFC contract is one sided but still sign it, so where is the problem? You really are out there aren’t you Rob

It happens on many pro teams in america anyway every year that players act like ass`s and get released by their team

Just look at the NFL TO, Brandon MArshall and Haynsworth just to name a few. Even though the UFC is a sport the boss and employees don`t always get along I`m sure it`s like that in any business that has 100+ employees.

Good point..

I was impressed by his fast ko, which may not take talent but I saw how he went most of 3 rounds and did’nt gas. He had some good power and nice punches too. He may not be GSP but I saw more positives then I did negatives.

But it was the fast KO coupled with his impressive physique which set the hype train full steam ahead. I fell for it too. He still has a lot of potential though, but since the Dairy Queen fiasco things have been making a steady decline for the Duff Man.

One name for you…….. Brock! Here is another……..ready……..Carwin! I actually think that he fills out well bc he has a massive frame. IMO he has the right amount of muscle for his body. I wonder what happened. And I’m sure we’ll see him in SF.

Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL

The part that makes me cringe is the, “I want to eat, Dana. Let me eat” or however it goes. Compare that nonsense with the classy nature of Fedor. For me, it’s even worse than, “I might even get on top of my wife tonight.” But Brock can pull it off well with his odd statements.

by malito3og3 on Sep 7, 2010 10:53 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

This is all bc Duffee wanted more money I believe as well as a few injury problems (Jesse edited the story for some reason). God forbid anyone offends great King Dana by asking him to forego another Ferrari to pay his fighters reasonable wages.

I don’t get the constant complaining about UFC salaries. Could they pay higher salaries and still be profitable? Maybe. Does that mean that, with their current scale, they aren’t still the best salaries in the game? Hell, no.

From top to bottom, the UFC pays better than every other sustainable org. Their undercard guys make more than they’d make main-eventing a local show. UFC undercard fighters also make more than shows like Strikeforce, where you see 2k/2k type deals for the dark fighters, with no shot at tv time, meaning lower sponsorship, too. Throw in the increase in sponsorship money available for UFC fighters, and the unannounced bonuses, and the UFC is certainly the best-paying organization around.

I’ve been reading Duffee was on an 8k/8k for the Duffee fight, meaning he should have made 16k before sponsors and bonuses, had he not been clipped. Yeah, that’s not new car money, but that’s still a pretty damn good paycheck for a guy in his 7th pro fight.

its prob better for him and his career that he got cut. lets face it he prob would have lots to a real threat unlike hague or russow. I think a few fights in a smaller organization will do him some good

On the good side a Duffee and Rogers fight sounds like a barn burner!!

Really I think this is going to be good for all party`s you know if Duffee did have a bad attitude getting punished by losing a job may be the best thing. Duffee vs Kongo,GG,Struve and Rothwell would of been good but Rogers is a decent fight, hell Big Foot I think would be a fune fight? We the fans won`t lose I think Duffee adds more excitement to SF than he does UFC anyway.

Yeah, Duffee still offers a lot of good match-ups. He very well might be a can, maybe not — he’s definitely not a contender — but he got caught. People are so quick to discredit people. He’s still good to watch and it’ll be interesting to see if he bounces back.

The more I think about the better this sounds

The match making is tough for SF an there HW division, right now Dufee can come in and be a instant top dog(top 5)over there, were in the UFC I don’t think he is a top 5 he might not even be a top ten. But anyway Dufee vs Rogers!, Duffe vs Big Foot, Dufee vs AA…. I hope SF gets him I don’t think he will win against every guy I mentioned but I bet it would be a exciting match?!
