Grappling ace 'Xande' Ribeiro eyes MMA return in March 2011

Quoteworthy:
"That’s a target as a professional (making MMA career). In my case the injuries has held me. The mixed martial arts is a field in which I’m not used to and I can’t wait to fight once again. I’m still recovering from a knee lesion. I only make slow trainings with my students. This year I’m resigned I won’t fight. I’m going to fight in the United States next year. I’ve negotiated my return to March. I’d like to confirm when I was healthy from the injury not to come back from my decision. I think it is important to get the rhythm but as I already have a name, I know they won’t give me a pushover but I’ll choose an event to give moral."
Two-time jiu-jitsu world champion Alexandre Ribeiro has two fights in mixed martial arts -- both ending by way of (T)KO under the Japanese organization Sengoku. "Xande" was forced to keep himself away from both MMA and jiu-jitsu competitions due to knee injury but the "Arena Team" product promises to be back next spring and doesn't want his future employer to give him a can as his first opponent. Anyone want to take a guess as to when and where he shows up?

If he comes to the UFC at 205...
he can start off against one of the following:
Jason Brilz, Thiago Silva, Luis Cane
BJ Penn is the biggest waste of talent in MMA history. Like usual, my pick was wrong and I blame a certain pudgy Hawaiin for my own short comings when it comes to talent selection. As it stands BZ – 3 Freenow82 – 1.
i just wikied him

There's a funny old BE anecdote by one of its posters who rolled with Xande
“I was told to not worry about defending, just do anything I could to advance position and throw/chain sub attempts. Not only did everything get shut down, I was handed advantageous position then immediately swept out of it and given it again just to prove a point. The hardest part about it mentally is that everything they did were simple maneuvers. Basics and fundamentals done so fucking well that I was completely nullified. It was a wonderful learning experience.”
Starts off from here, about Rolles Gracie black belting Rashad Evans for no-gi.
Good to see guys like him and Braulio Estima getting into MMA.
High level BJJ guys with good takedowns. He seem to pack some power too and coming in well with the striking – at least in his fight Yamamiya in Sengoku. But the time off probly isn’t a good thing. Sad thing though is that his older brother Saulo was the epitome of a butt scooter despite having greater credentials.

I'm not sure that's a contest... well, w/ Thiago Silva. :)
The other two are fair game, especially Brilz after Big Nog.
U mean Lil Nog... I will NOT joke about your BE affiliation. NO I will not!
haha, jokes aside, I hope he makes it to the UFC, we need more top-level JJ guys, especially at 205.

Agreed... ANYTHING to disrupt "WRESTLESTRONG"
And yeah, Lil Nog… Big Nog was an oversight because I tend to notice him more.

You need to hear from Xande when he speaks over their methodology of teaching. I met him once and for some reason had the impression he was kind of arrongant. Big mistake. The guy is very nice and very intelligent. Jiu-jitsu badass.

No way he will go to UFC now. Xande is a smart guy and will go step to step. He’s a competitor and won’t damage his the name he has built up along a glorius jiu-jitsu career. Shine is my wild guess.

He is 29 though. If he is in the mental state to start something big in MMA, then he might go to UFC

That would be a disservice to him because he's good enough to beat up most guys of
at the bottom then he’ll be trapped against monsters while still learning MMA as he’ll get fast tracked because of his name and BJJ credentials.

agreed
I rather see him fight in japan, where we can enjoy his submission game without being faceplanted to the ground and his sub game being stifled by one of those ufc powerhousewrestlers.

Hey mania, try 6 time world champ.
Thats 6 Mundial golds as a black belt, 4 at weight and 2 absolutes. He’s the only guy to have beaten Roger Gracie in the past 5 years and was the first guy to tap Jeff Monson in a pro no gi grappling tourney. He is basically the best light-heavy grappler on the planet.
good for you

No wikipedia, just a fan.
You learn that kind of stuff if you actually train and go to these people’s seminars.
