Main difference-
The amount of time that Clay Guida spends standing with his head in another guys crotch. GSP takes you down instantly, then proceeds to beat the ever living shit out of you.

But the bottom line is once the fight is on the ground for either fighter its the same thing, land a few shots, stand up wash rinse repeat.
GSP hasnt been pulled off a fighter since Apr 2008. Although he has been winning, his style has been a downward spiral since Serra KO’ed him. The guy has all the tools to win any way he wants yet he’s been putting me to sleep for his past 3 or 4 fights
for sure he fights more tenatively
and that sucks. But his GnP is on another level. He made my favorite fighter quit (I am not even a GSP fan, hate him, but he is an ass kicker no doubt). The beatdown he put on Fitch was epic.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again GSP’s chin is not suspect. The guy was not and never has been KO’d cleanly and that is the only time I remember him being rocked. He also had the presence of mind to tap.
I think he avoids serious strikers now because he knows that he’s human and doesn’t want to get derailed by making a silly mistake.

are good enough to go up or down weight classes and keep there shit together.. though it is impressive to see a smaller guy bulk up and kick some bigger guys ass…it’s really sad to see things like when bj put on the wrong kinda weight and fought matt hughes.. yeah he beat him the first time in that class..but the second fight was a terrible thing to witness..same for fighters who have to cut so much weight they are used up before the fight even starts…
only certain fighters can be so lucky to pendulum between classes.

He could probably drink a 6 pack, smoke a joint walk into the octagon and beat 60-70% of everybody there, he’s just that good. He’s never had the mindset or the discipline to train like it.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s impressed with some of his recent training efforts, but I think the life of a fighter depresses Penn. I think he loves to fight and loves being the champ but he just doesn’t like the clean life style, dieting and training that goes along with that.

How is it more impressive Odamn. HW has always been a weaker division compared to LHW. If Fedor cut he would lose his speed advantage. I just don’t think Fedor likes to cut, and that’s fine, but I don’t think it makes him more impressive.

Guida is boring?
He may not have a style that leads to a lot of finishes for him, but he’s been involved in some of the most exciting fights in the UFC. See his fights against Huerta, Griffin, and Diaz.
GSP is obviously the FAR superior fighter, but Guida has a better record for excitement. Of course this doesn’t apply if watching an extremely gifted MMA fighter work his craft equals the height of excitement to you. It’s just that a large portion of the audience likes and appreciates back and forth battles.

Just plain horrible.
I am a huge Guida fan. I have been watching him for years before he went to the UFC since he is from the same area and some family members actually know him personally. Huge Guida fan right here. But that Diaz fight was one of the worst fights he has ever had as far as exciting fights goes. Even his own corner was yelling at him in between rounds to actually do something and not just hold Diaz down. That fight is a perfect example of lay n pray. He only takes Diaz down and holds him the whole time. No guard pass attempts, no ground n pound strike attempts, no submission attempts. Just take down and hold and reposition to keep him held down.

to me GSP has always been the same fighter. he took sherk down and played to sherks’ strength and that was before the serra KO, he did the same thing to trig and in the first BJ penn fight.
it is not his game to knock people out on the feet it never has been-which is why he wasn’t knocking people out before the serra KO and he isn’t really KOing them afterwards either.
NO ONE complains that Silva refuses to go to the ground and it is not like GSP lays and prays on the ground without advancing his position. he passes guard like very few in the sport, he attempts subs etc. he made BJ quit. he tapped hughes and tko’d him give the guy a break. he almost sub’d the last guy he fought twice for christ sakes. when someone does too well someone will always come along and complain about something. in the end the reason probably has nothing to do with how he fights at all. you couch warriors are probably jealous that he is better looking or canadian or something ridiculous like that . yet if he were tim sylvia you’d be hating on him because he was too ugly and too american.

Quality of opponent has nothing at all to do with the quality of fights that fighter produces. Anderson Silva, GSP are two of the very very best in MMA however two random guys fighting out of Tachi Palace Fights may produce way more exciting fights.
Quality fighters are expected to produce quality fights. The only subjective thing here is what does quality mean to you?

true that best fighter does not always equal best fights..
but there is a reason they are the best and sometimes game plans are not a fun thing to watch..but i will still like and respect the good fighter even if it wasn’t fight of the night quality..the fighter is doing it to win and to keep his title..and the winning purse..does he owe us an exciting fight..not necessarily.. but i have enjoyed 2" no name fighters" over the head liners numerous times and am never surprised.

Still tough to agree with the original point
GSP isn’t fighting his way to the top. He’s facing #1 contenders across the board and hasn’t lost a round since about 2007. Maybe there’s a bit of tentativeness since the Serra TKO, maybe it’s due to his opponents skill and the magnitude of each fight. He may not finish fights but he makes #1 contenders look like they’re not close to his league. He outwrestles the best wrestlers in this sport. Maybe he does fight to not lose, but he ‘not loses’ in very convincing fashion. I’m not really a GSP fan but he’s just better than everyone else right now.
I like Guida’s intensity but they really aren’t too much different in their styles. Guida’s long hair just may make the fight look more exciting. When he gets hit or dodges a punch, his hair swings so violently that it looks more violent. Sorta like wwe. Yes, i’m joking. Yes, i’m new on here. Yes, i have no life. No, I don’t live with my folks.

If it’s GSP it’s gonna be a title fight. Usually against a guy who’s been shit talkin for a couple months. If it’s guida, he won’t quit until he’s passed out or loses 10 pints of blood. The dude has a ton of heart and is a cardio machine. His fights are just awesome man. The main point is that the idiot who was originally quoted to begin this thread is just that, an idiot. BJ has all the skills
He just got beat to the punch on everything by a faster fighter. I think Frank is just that one fighter/style that’s like the Penn kryptonite. Stick n move, fast hands and footwork, stick and move; usually at some point in every Penn fight the other guy plants his feet and unloads and that’s when Penn puts them away. Frankie’s just too disciplined to fall into that. I also don’t think Penn looked very enthusiastic that night; didn’t seem like he even wanted to be there. IMO he should take a step back and ask himself if he really wants to continue fighting, cause he really didn’t seem like he had any fire/desire or heart for that Edgar fight.

Some guys just have another guys number. Rich Franklin was pretty much dominating everyone until he ran into Anderson Sylva. Then he got blasted twice. Worked his way back up beating Okami, Travis Lutter, Jason MacDonald, Matt Hamill (not sure if they fought but i’ll leave it in). I know he lost to Hendo, and Vitor too recently. But Sylva will probably always feed Franklin his cake. He’s the reason Franklin fights at 205. He was a spectacular gatekeeper at 185 but he’s still better than 95% of all fighters. Silva just has his number. Maybe this isn’t the best example but you’re right on the money ‘O’.

that's what impresses me about GSP
he always has an answer for any fighter he faces. He dominated a BJJ wizard like Penn and Serra, dominated Elite strikers like Alves (Hardy is not an elite striker to me) and outwrestles D1 wrestlers like Koscheck and Hughes. Until another freak of nature similiar to GSP comes along, he always has everyone’s number.
One fighter I want to see face some better competition is Gerald Harris
That slam he put on Branch was awsome. If he is putting in the training he is someone I can see move up the ladder and to keep an eye on. Fitch has put in his dues and might put up a better struggle? Right now I think your right though but things can change once Silva looked untouchable?
