UFC 122: Vitor Belfort 'not worried' about Yushin Okami

Yushi_medium

Props: Las Vegas Review Journal

Quoteworthy:

"I've learned one thing in life. Everybody has a course. Everybody has a path. I know where I want to go, and I know I'm going to get there ... I'm not worried at all about him. I'm not worried about anyone besides myself. I'm worried about me and working on myself every day to get in the best condition, because I know when I'm in my best condition, I'm trouble."

Longtime PRIDE and UFC veteran Vitor Belfort prepares for his UFC 122 main event against fellow middleweight contender Yushin Okami when they head to Deutschland on November 12. "The Phenom" watched his division title shot slip away thanks to a nagging shoulder injury earlier this year. Now with Anderson Silva locked into a rematch with Chael Sonnen following their UFC 117 shocker, the Brazilian must work his way back into the fold by overcoming the Japanese "Thunder" overseas. Anyone think that Okami gives him more than he bargained for?

Right here. I’m not sure yet if I think Okami will actually win, but I don’t think Okami is the kind of fighter you can not worry about.

I think Okami can grind this out

Arm.bar.bandit saw me slow dancing with Anderson Silva. I had my hands on his ass.

Maybe if he can avoid the hands

But Belfort was on fire before the lay off. Making short work of Rich and Lindland was no small feat.

Okami should have the advantage over Vitor.

He’s got more recent action, and he’s one of the most well-rounded fighters in the MW division. He’s got more than enough wrestling to put Belfort on his back, and lately Vitor hasn’t been all that spectacular in that position.

Still, the striking edge probably goes to Belfort, but not by that much. I’ve been pretty impressed with Okami lately.

If I was a hungry man with a gun in my hand and some promises to keep...

Vitor hasn’t been on his back lately. And vitors hands are as good if not better than Anderson Silva’s so how does he barely edge out okami in striking.

by p rock on Sep 7, 2010 9:49 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Got to agree there

Belfort has 13 ko’s out of 19 wins, if anything trading with him is not an option if Okami wants to win.

Not better than Silva!

More power yea, but accuracy definitely goes to Anderson!

Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL

by MBOW on Sep 7, 2010 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Vitor's striking is about as multi-dimensional as a CAD line.

It’s extremely good, but not all that fluid or dynamic. Still, he does have an advantage there. It’s just that it happens to be the easiest advantage to neutralize for a good wrestler, which Okami is.

Vitor has this.

I wasn’t very impressed with Okami’s preformance against Munoz.

And Vitor beat Rich Franklin. Something Okami couldn’t do.

He came very close to subbing him

But Franklin is really hard to submit

yep..i remember thinking it was over when lutter armbarred him

Then he escaped, and we then witnesses, what I consider, to be the most gassed and pathetic display we have seen by any fighter in recent memory..lutter looked like a slug on xanax

Lmao

I remember that all too well.

Can you imagine if Lutter had a gas tank, he would be a beast.

He’d beat Sonnen 9/10 times

Franklin vs Sonnen would be a good MW fight. Franklin by TKO or sub. WORD.

I would take Sonnen! Ace isn't as goog on his back as Anderson is and it took him23 min to do it.

Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL

Agreed, I would take Sonnen as well.

True, he’s not as good on his back as Anderson, but he is good at getting back up. He finds a way. He’s rarely ever on his back for too long. Of course, Franklin would be the underdog these days, but Ace is the man. WORD (I gotta stop saying that. I’ll blame it on the OCD. WORD.)

You guys are looking at it ffrom the wrong angle.

Stylistically, with his shaky chin Vitor’s power would be a huge difference maker in teh franklin fight. Franklin’s ground and clinch acumen is what saved him against Okami. Funnily enough that’s the exact same place that Vitor falters in. And unlike Franklin Okami has the chin to withstand some of Vitor’s power.

I would like to see Belfort/Franklin II. Yeah, I reckon Belfort would win again, but I would expect Franklin to put up more of a fight. To be fair to Franklin, Belfort’s blow could not have been a better grazing shot. It’s not like it was flush, it just connected in a prime spot. I would like to see Franklin inflict some damage at least the next time around. Not that it will happen.

And good point, NNR. I agree. I would expect Okami to win via decision against Belfort for those exact reasons.

okami is a good fighter

And okami is also the title of a superb ps2/wii game where you play as a god embodied in a wolf named ameterasu…its much like zelda and very fun…anywho…I like both these guys, but would much rather see vitor fight anderson, though I’m hoping(not betting) sonnen wins the rematch…so who knows..

maybe if he travels back in time...

but not after a long layoff and injuries coupled with no ufc-fights at 185.

This will be competitive, be sure of it.

It'll take him a round to work off the ring rust

He’ll hit his stride in the 2nd is my prediction. He had a little lay off on a suspension right after his fight with Hendo for testing positive on roids, came back and went on this most recent tear. Belfort seems to handle it ok, though I think this is the longest he’s been out of action.

gimme some of the drugs you on man, okami is hard to hit i read awhile back that besides lyoto his is the 2nd most least hit fighter in the ufc, that might of changed by now thou, okami’s gonna work some g’n’p

I think this is going to be a closer fight that many might expect. I don’t think either fighter will take control until after the middle of the 2nd. I have Vitor by tko in a very competetive fight.

i once saw a documentary on people with fat fetishes

Like skinny people who go nuts for the biggunz…this one lady called her date “bi-sizeual”…meaning he dated both obese and fairly skinny people…then it showed a party with all obese people, like a singles party, but for overweight people, or people with fat fetishes…I don’t know where I’m going with this, but I couldn’t stop watching…was called taboo something or other…
