Shinya Aoki vs Marcus Aurelio tops recently revealed DREAM 16 fight card at Nippon Gaishi Hall on Sept. 25
The Fighting and Entertainment Group has revealed the fight card for the upcoming DREAM 16, which is slated to take place on September 25 at Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan, during the last few days.
Fresh off his first-round submission victory in his first title defense against Tatsuya Kawajiri, DREAM lightweight champion, Shinya Aoki, takes on the UFC and PRIDE veteran, Marcus Aurelio, in a non-title affair. Former top flight lightweight, Joachim Hansen, looks to put his three-fight skid to a halt and earn his first victory as a featherweight against the perennial fan favorite, Hideo Tokoro.
DREAM 16 marks the promotional debut of the two-time lightweight (143 lbs) champion and the long-time mainstay of Shooto, "Lion" Takeshi Inoue. "Lion" has promised to "alter the Featherweight's divisional landscape" with a victory over the former Olympic freestyle wrestler, Kazuyuki Miyata.
Elsewhere, the clash of two premier entertainers in MMA pits the Japanese MMA demigod, Kazushi Sakuraba, against Jason "Mayhem" Miller. Also, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, Gegard Mousasi, looks to become the first two-division champ in DREAM when he takes on Tatsuya Mizuno in the finale of the promotion's light heavyweight finale.
At the time of this writing, the line-up stands as follows:
Middleweight: Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller
Lightweight: Shinya Aoki vs. Marcus Aurelio
Featherweight: Hideo Tokoro vs. Joachim Hansen
Featherweight: "Lion" Takeshi Inoue vs. Kazuyuki Miyata
Light heavyweight (2010 DREAM Light heavyweight GP finale): Gegard Mousasi vs. Tatsuya Mizuno

i can't believe theres no comments here, must be the Labor Day weekend thingy going on.
Aurelio and Aoki is a great match up. It will be interesting to see how much Aurelio’s game has been altered since he left the big stage. I doubt it will, but I’m wanting to see if Aoki can submit him.
Saku vs Mayhem is cool. Mayhem was able to survive 25 minutes against Jitsu stud Shields, but you cannot count out the Sakuraba Kimura. I think Mayhem controls to a decsision win.
I dont like Hansen but I appreciate his fighting spirit. I like Tokoro though, and always rooted for him. Should be a solid fight.
I’ve heard alot about Lion Takeshi, and NNR thinks highly of him (I think), so I will be excited to finally see him in action.
And is Gegard still the Dream Middleweight champion? when are they going to strip him since he cant make 185 anymore? This seems tailor made (as the whole tournament has) to give Gegard another belt. Mousasi ftw!
I should never have doubted the wisdom of David W-S or the talent of Junior Dos Santos…and screw Dana White
LATE TAKEDOWN FTW
Mousasi gave up his title prior to the Jacare/Mayhem rematch which of course ended in a no contest, so I think the Dream MW title is vacant at the moment. I think Aurelio is a great match up for Aoki, a strong lightweight with a good submission game. I like Hansen and Tokoro so it’s a difficult call, but I think Hansen should pull out the victory and snap that three-fight losing streak.
