WEC 53: Dominick Cruz vs Scott Jorgensen title fight announced for December 16
The WEC lightweight title fight between Ben Henderson and Anthony Pettis, which is set for December 16 in Arizona at WEC 53, now has company.
The promotion has announced that a second title fight will take place on the card, that of bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz vs. Scott Jorgensen.
Cruz was successful in his first title defense as he got by challenger Joseph Benavidez via split decision at WEC 50 last month. The 135-pound kingpin snatched the belt from the clutches of one-and-done champion Brian Bowles at WEC 47 back on March 6.
"The Dominator" has put together a seven-fight win streak since a submission loss to former featherweight champion Urijah Faber way back at WEC 26 in March 2007.
As for Jorgensen, who also walked away victorious at WEC 50 as he defeated Brad Pickett by unanimous decision, a title fight against Dominick Cruz is something he feels he has earned, and is a fight he feels is his to lose.
"It's exciting for me to hopefully be able to get that title shot against Dominick (Cruz) and take the belt from him. I honestly think I'm a better striker than Dominick, he just moves at a great rate and creates different angles -- but my wrestling is better than his. If I wanna take someone down, I will. I'll find a way. If he wants to stop them then I've got other tricks in my bag. For me it would be a great fight, I feel I'm stronger than him in every area and I'll bring that belt back."
Scott's five-fight win streak with victories over the likes of Antonio Banuelos and Takeya Mizugaki has finally propelled him to the top of the decision. A win over the dynamic Cruz will earn him 135-pound gold.

if aldo gets thru manny uninjured
you could see him on this card as well in which case i think it definetly makes a ppv
Let's Go Scotty!!!!!!!!!!
But I see him having a very tough time with the longer, taller and crisper Dominic Cruz. If Scotty doesn’t come in with the better wrestling, it will be a long fight with Cruz peppering Scotty with jabs from the outside.
I AM SOMETIMES BIASED - Get over it!!!!!!!
I agree
I like Jorgensen a lot but Cruz is so damn fast and accurate with his strikes that this is going to be a tough fight for him to win. Jorgensen is going to have to find a way to drag Cruz to the ground and maintain top control while he looks for a sub. I foresee Cruz getting caught in a guillotine choke though at some point.
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who make people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.

interesting to see Cruz’s footwork versus Jorgensen’s relentless pushing forward.
wonder if Cruz can pull off the semi-optical illusion he did against Benavidez the 2nd time around.

Am I the only one
that can’t stand to watch Cruz fight? His movement and lack of power drive me nuts.
WAR JORGENSEN!

He's become one of my favorite fighters in the WEC.
The first time I remember seeing him was his first match with Banuelos and I’ve been a fan since. When a lot of my friends who are casual fans see his fights they’re awestruck. His toughness his scrappyness, his ugliness are unbelievable. I heard he was offered the shot before his fight with Pickett and they told him he’d have to wait, so he said fuck that give me the toughest guy you got I’ll beat him then I’ll take the title shot. Jorgensen = FUCKING WARRIOR!

I heard the same thing about the Pickett fight.
I have always liked the guy, and I have never really liked Cruz. I am not sure that Scotty will get his hands on him though. He will have a definite speed disadvantage in this one, but an obvious strength advantage.

Scotty is good from the top, how did Faber beat Cruz I don't remember seeing that fight.

I never saw it either. My cable system got VS after that fight.
My guess would be a wrestling clinic UD.

IF that's the case I would think Jorg could do the same.

you see my dirty bird atlanta falcons lay the fucking smackdown in new orleans sons?
hurricane matt ryan son!!
the brockness monster grinds up teenagers and puts them in his protein shakes..and uses razor blades to chop toddlers up into lines to snort like meth...the reason no one can find bigfoot is because the brockness monster found him years ago and now has him in numerous ziplock bags in the back of his freezer...
I missed the smackdown, but I did catch the highlights to a very close game.
I AM SOMETIMES BIASED - Get over it!!!!!!!
yea they only show a missed field goal by new orleans...but they dont show the part where nawlins was held to a total of 44 yards rushing...
that brees was intercepted twice……and that nawlins was goin for that fg on 1st down with 10 mins left in OT….why would the greatest offense in the nfl get a 1st down and then run off the field without using the rest of the 3 downs to get their kicker as close as possible to the uprights?
its because they couldnt run the ball on atlanta…because atlanta was getting to brees and forcing him to do dumb shit….you never go for a field goal on 1st down unless you’re out of time and you’ve failed to make it in the endzone….

Finally,
a big promotion with a good card coming to the valley. This thing is shaping up nicely.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
Valley? I apologize for my ignorance of Arizona but what Valley?

ah no worries man
Phoenix Metropolitan is also known as the Valley of the Sun.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
No shit I got a buddy that lives out there, and I've been there twice

yep, we are surrounded on four sides by mountains
with about 8 cities in between. For instance, I live out in the west valley.. (Cardinals stadium, Coyotes stadium, spring training complexes), but my brother lives in the east valley (ASU, Scottsdale), we are like 45 minutes from each other, but both say we are from Phoenix when talking to people from out of the state, but say “the valley” when talking to someone from elsewhere in the state.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
Gotcha, in Texas we refer to the southern most part of the state as the Valley so I was confused at first then I saw the fight was in AZ

I drove through Texas once
I don’t know that I ever got out. GD that is a big state. Oh, and I don’t particularly care for Houston. Hot and Muggy. Where you at? I am guessing…hmmm, Dallas or Forth Worth?
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
I'm from Houston and yeah hot and muggy is an understatement
I live in Austin though which is pretty wild being that I’m a huge sooner fan. (My family is from OK) Austin is fucking rad though, great party city lots to do live music good food the whole thing, just too many hippies. When my buddy and his wife drive down form Phoenix it take them about 17 hours to get here and yeah most of that is IH 10 from El Paso

I used to drive back and forth between phoenix and minneapolis
and just driving through the panhandle is bad enough. I figured you were closer to OK due to your name. Makes sense.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
jorgensen FTW
About time he got his shot, I just don’t really like cruz he kinda rubs me wrong way with his comments, it’ll be cool if he catches cruz in a quick guillotine.
Then if bowles comes back vs jorgensen would be sick

AWESOME NEWS!!!
I’m pulling for the Jorgensen upset. Cruz’ footwork won’t save him in this match up.
